Nutters I need Your Help !!!! Emergency !!

I think that whole situation is so upsetting to you, that you are over focusing on unimportant details, and not realising what is really going on here.

Teacher is using his/ her authority to enlist rest of the class and turn your child in object of ridicule.

Your child is being blatantly bullied by that teacher.

This is not about debate and education- this is about you going to principal and demand that your child is protected from further abuse!
Right now!

On second though, you are right. I wouldn't educate the class on anything, I would report the crap out of that teacher, for pushing an anti-gun agenda by clearly victimizing a student by singleling her out knowing that she was a gun enthusiast. Political agenda in the making. Call the news.

NONE OF THE TEACHERS BUSINESS.

This brings up an interesting point tho'. We should maybe remember to teach our children that this information is none of anyones business, and suggest that they not really talk about it outside the house.

Good point. I constantly reinforce this: the need to understand that how other people perceive us or what we say is shaped by their perceptions, not ours, and we have to tailor our message to our audience, if we care whether they get the message we want them to get. And most importantly, simply don't talk to people who you cannot trust not to blab.

We are dealing with some conniving, manipulative individuals who in many cases are well aware of and fully enjoy the power they wield over children. Many of them are there mostly because they enjoy that power and the opportunity to shape young minds the way they want to, (and for the time off of course) "Social engineering" as some the education students I knew at university used to call it, with a sort of sneering little laugh.

Talk to your kids about what they are being taught and by who and do your best to innoculate them against the BS. And take them right out of that system if you can, is my advice.

I'd pull her out of there and send some letters to the school board. In the meantime I'd ask your Daughter to point out the fact that inanimate object cannot be evil, and such an object requires the will of the person in possession of that object to decide how it will be used. Maybe have her mention that it is already illegal to commit murder, yet these things still happen. Laws are only obeyed by people who obey laws.. It's simple.

Her teacher needs to spend more time teaching kids cursive writing and proper language skills and less time forming their opinions for them about things they don't yet understand.

Pulling her out of there and calling the board/principal sends a bad message though. that kids shouldn't talk about guns. I disagree, when we were young that's all we talked about /played with etc... You'd jjust be promoting the stigma that guns are bad and kids should be afraid of them. Rather then educated about them.

I do agree that the teachers technique is F**ked up though.

If that teacher really cared about the kids learning about an issue, she would have divided the class into 2 even sized teams and randomly assigned one to be pro and the other anti, and to research the best arguments on their assigned side. That's how debating is supposed to work. This sounds more like a pile-on.

Schools don't have actual debates anymore. Letting people actually think for themselves and research an issue is counterproductive to the liberal agenda.

Yes agreed on that for sure.

That teacher is blatently socially engineering the little kids on more than just a political level. I would be going straight to the principal and the school board.

I would be questioning what aspect of the curriculum this is coming from. As an educator and having had 2 children already move through grade 8 and a thrid in a 7/8 split, I seriously question this being part of any curriculum. I am in Ontario, not sure where you are, but I don't imagine curriculum would be that different. Contextually it does not cover any of the course content in any of the subjects taught at that level. The only area it could be used in is English involving the oral communication strand. However, chosen topic is questionable. Debates among students should be in areas that would represent their age group and their interests. Also, a fair debate on one topic would divide the class equally on each side of the topic. Another issue with this proposed "debate" is the fact that the teacher gave their personal opinion on the subject, thus influencing the students' choice as to where they stood on an issue they likely gave little thought to or have next to no knowledge on. Inappropriate in all regards.

A pen on a table next to a so called "assault rifle". Ask the teacher which has killed more people through history?

I am pretty sure that teachers are not supposed to be pushing their own agendas on children. Make a complaint, Stormbringer did and got equal time to discuss his side of the story with the class.

What 13 year old is educated enough to even offer an opinion of this sort anyhow? Yes research can help, but they will not understand the classes of firearms, laws and education required.Hell it took many years of changes, mostly bad for us to get where we're at now,and it's STILL not clear to the very best of us.We fight these issues on a daily basis.
Yes it is overreaching for a teacher to put these students in this position, but better yet,why don't we turn this around on them? make them answer their own questions first, then we can do a comparative study on,with or against their findings. Then again, isn't that what we've been doing all this time? Social engineering at its best...

Just so you parents know what goes on in schools. I graduated 2 years ago, in my grade 11 history class I was called a "fascist gun lover" by my teacher in front of the whole class. This all happened because there was a class discussion on Canadian politics and I stated I am a strongly set in my conservative views, and I didn't like how left wing political groups attacked legal gun owners because they saw an easy target. Now I really don't care that my teacher said that cause I can handle that, but I don't want to hear
about someone's kid being attacked when they may be to young to know exactly who they are and if they do know who they are they may be afraid to show it in fear of ridicule by class mates.

Talk to the principle a debate like that has no place at a school unless its a grade 12 politics class.

Agree, this subject has no business or purpose being discussed in the classroom. Social engineering at work.

An assult rifle is a machine gun. Machine guns are illegal to own. A automatic rifle such as ar15 is not and never will be a assult rifle. They just look scarey.
