Nylon 66 - Care & Feeding

I have just acquired one in Apache Black. It doesn't look like the easiest piece in the world to strip down. Does anyone have a link to a manual on line or any good suggestions?
 
I had the same one (tube fed). Actually it was the FIL's. The stock was busted at the pistol grip and he had it duct taped together :rolleyes: I located a CBC replacement stock (used) and tore it down completely. Nothing to it once you get with it. It was likely the first complete overhaul/cleaning that Nylon 66 ever had. The reciever is plastic inside under the chrome plate cover and I replaced some busted/cracked parts inside. Take your time and you'll see how simple it actually is.

Where did you get it? I was looking at one and I hope you didn't beat me to it:)
 
Damn, I just checked the store I was looking at and both the Nylon 66's listed are gone! Did you get it from Williams Arms!
 
Used to have one a while back....from memory:
- #### and release bolt
- pry the bolt handle out....it will just pull straight out
- unscrew the receiver cover, remove it
- unscrew barrel screw, remove barrel and lug from inside of stock. Keep note of which way the barrel band and insert is pointing.
- push bolt forward to remove

Should be as far as you need to go. I never did take the trigger group apart...too complicated.
 
that's right - the nylon components keep it self-lubed- even cleaning need not be that extensive- just pull the charging handle, take off the body cover and unscrew the barrel if you want /need to clean from the breech end- i've used a q-tip soaked in solvent to clean the bolt head and dried with q-tips, but the rest is a quick wipe down with a towel- no lube required- if anything it might accelerate the wear- if you notice anythiing particulary dirty, you might get in there with a q-tip and give it a wipe- dry, of course- but that's it- just don't take it down any further or you'll need 4 thumbs to re-assemble it- i got mine new in 69- back when k-mart canada sold guns- never had it past the barrel off stage so i've avoided the horror stories
 
all firearm manufacturers will provide free firearm manual downloads on their site and if not listed they will mail you one to your home.It's a policy as manufacturers don't want a law suit in case you get hurt as a result of not having the instruction manual (owner's manual),nice society we live in today isn't?,LOL.

Guilty as charged on the Apache Black Nylon 66. I had been looking at it on the website since Friday but couldn't get to the store until yesterday. There was still one there when I left the store.
 
Thanks for all your help, guys. I checked the Remington website but there was nothing for the '66. I will try writing to them for a manual.

The strange thing about this rifle is that it is marked as being made in Canada. I thought they were only produced in the US & Brazil.

You bugger:). I've been looking since then too! Oh well, I think I'm moving to an SKS anyway!

You can make "speed loaders" for the Nylon 66 out of copper tubing. Get the size (3/8 in. IIRC) that just takes a 22rf cartridge. Block off one end by squeezing it in a vise and cut the tubing off just above where 14 rds will fit in. Then drill a hole cross-ways through the top to take a disposable stopper e.g. twist tie or twig, that keeps the bullets from falling out.

Make several dozen like that, load them up and carry them in a shoulder bag when you go in the woods. To load the gun, take out the magazine plunger stick and hold it and the rifle in one hand. Take the "speed loader" from the bag with the other hand, pull the stopper with your teeth, and pour the 14 bullets into the gun. Spit out stopper, insert and lock plunger stick, and shoot away. Repeat often.

It helps to have a 2 compartment bag to keep loaded and unloaded speed loaders separate.

Neat trick,guninhand, thanks for sharing. Any ideas on using something like gelcoat to take out scratches on the stock?
