Hi everyone, I just acquired a used remington nylon 66 and need some help. I might end up taking it to a 'smith but thought I would try the forum for suggestions first. The clip is not held tight into the reciever and when the clip moves, the bolt does not pick up the next round. Looking from the outside, nothing appears to be broken or missing. I am sure that a retainer or something is broken or cracked tho. I've looked online and it appears these .22s are difficult to break down. Just wondering if anyone else had this problem and what they ended up doing? Otherwise this is a great plinker. Had it out in the pouring rain yesterday and just smiled.

Thanks for you help,

Rick

is this the tubefed magazine model? or 5/10 shot magazine??

the tubefeds usually work like a charm!! sometimes the pin at the end where the plastic "key" is, that holds it locked in can get centered and it needs to be out on the one side for it to lock in.

I had an issue with my dads old nylon, the "tab" that holds the mag in was bent and was not engaging the magazine very well, and it had feed issues. You can get the breakdown plans online, just google it. Also, you don't need to tear it down too far to access the "tab". I've had the whole thing apart, and yes its a dog, especially once you pop the pins in the receiver, and the trigger assembly falls out in pieces, (but you don't have to do that). I'd give it a go before taking it to a smith.

I had the same situation with a 10C. I kept slightly bending the metal bracket in the mag well until it fed the rounds reliably.

Thanks, I think I'll give it another go. I have the 10 shot clip and it almost seems like the problem is with the clip release. The release doesn't appear to be secure but moves back and forth. What the heck did a guy do before google? :)

Is your mag marked 10C or 77 up near the top? If it isn't, then it may not be the correct mag for your rifle. I recently discovered that a poly mag for the Remington 541(?) looks almost identical to the mag for the Nylon 77/10C, fits fine and looks almost identical but does not fasten in. The top has a little notch/cut-out on the 541(?) mag that doesn't catch on the Nylon 10C/77.

Thanks, I never thought there could be an issue with the clip. yes, it does have "77" near the top. Might be worth looking for another one to see it my problem still exists.
