how would you leave the action open on a nylon 66 while going down range ( they don`t lock open). I assume a chamber flag would just break when the bolt closes on it. So how would you make this gun safe while going forward?

When going down range at our club, the rifles have to be in a rack behind the firing line. Action open, however you accomplish that.

Any decent chamber flag should be fine. The spring in you bolt isn't that powerful. It's only a .22 and chamber flags can withstand more battery that you bolt is capable of. You should be fine using one. :)

I stick a pencil into the open chamber and easy the bolt forward, onto the pencil.

If I don't have a pencil, I use and empty 22 case as a stovepipe. It shows that the bolt is not closed.

A 22 mag empty is even better.

Cut your self a foot of weed eater cord and insert it in chamber with a flag on the end if you so desire and then follow established rules. Most cords are quite hi viable colors and work well.I use them on my CZ bolt actions all the time.I usually have 1/2 dozen cut and give them to new shooters at the range.
