Hey folks, I was just wondering if anyone out there uses their O/U or SxS for hunting waterfowl? I would like to try duck hunting, but all I have us an O/U. I know a synthetic pump is ideal but its not in the cards for me at this time.

Not recommended....but doable. Obviously limited to two shots instead of three. Some guys take their trap guns....go for it I say. Shouldn't keep you home.

I use SxS for waterfowl for the past 20 years. Tried semi-auto but found it slower and less efficient the extra shoot was not worth the extra problems with occasional jamming and awkward reloading. SxS will be bit faster to reload then O/U but if you do goose hunting and need more long range shots O/U due to single barrel sights will be better for led aiming

At one time all I used was a semi but one day I took out a double just for fun and fun it was. It worked amazing and I shot just as many ducks but noticed I used a lot less ammo. In my experience is the third shot is usually wasted. Take your o/u out you wont be sorry.

I MUCH prefer double barrel for waterfowl hunting (all bird hunting, actually). Duck hunting can be a messy business, and a simple double barrel will keep going when the auto loaders are all full of mud & swamp grass...

When you could use lead I shot a Citori as the fired hulls were easier to locate than with my 1100.Not worth reloading Bismuth or steel.Former ....cost per lb and later impractical.

Echo... An O/U is fine for waterfowl or any other scattergunning... What general area are you hunting in Dusty?

An o/u is what I learned to shoot with, hunt ducks geese etc. Never had a problem.......well until steel shot came in and i had to buy bismuth or tungsten. I did then switch to a semi, and every once and a while i take out my o/u and its game on.

I have a buddy here for Thanksgiving dinner tonight. His waterfowl shotgun is a Winchester Model 21 Duck. One of the great parts of the shotgun is the incredible French walnut. This Model 21 is one of 14 that have French walnut given to Mr. Olin by General Omar Bradley, so Winchester could stock the 21s. It is an incredible duck gun.
