Well, the better half now has a hunting licence and PAL. I think a TC Contender in 30-30 would be about perfect for her (and I'd like to play with one too).

Has anyone seen any Contenders on any shelves anywhere? Lots of Encores but not many Contenders around.

Any help?

I bought a s/s Rynite stocked T/C Contender carbine in 30-30 for my son's first hunting rifle when he was 10 years old, the light recoil was non-issue for him even at that age.

Where to find one is another story you just have to watch the Exchange forum here on Gun Nutz problem for you is that there are now many others that are watching for them.

I have 2 frames and 8 barrels now and no I am not selling them... ;)

You can order one from any T/C dealer. I'd recommend Ramakkos or Williams arms for the complete rifle. I think Mystic Precision can order barrels as well. These lightweight little rifles should be way more popular.

A Contender in .30-30 would be super light but as a result would still have a goodly degree of kick. Why not an Encore in .30-30?

She does have some shooting experience. She has fired light weight 30-30s and they are fine with her. The contender just seems to be a nice size. And besides I don't think 30-30 is available in a factory encore barrel.

The best price I have found is $850 with a minimum of 4 month wait time. Apparently there was a problem with the export permit for them (so I was told) Perhaps a group buy, there seems to be alot of interest. I would take one in 223 then order a custom barrel in 6.5 JDJ.

I like the way you think...

It's seems there are a few of us looking for the same thing, I see the odd one on the EE but the last one just seemed to disappear and the seller never got back to me. If you guys are interested pm me and mayb ewe can do a "group-search" for a couple Contenders, I am looking for one in any caliber I can get so we could potentially mix and match any guns we find to suit all parties involved.

Oh what have I done now everyone is looking for Contenders/barrels I'll never find another deal on the EE...

I'm thinking that I want another Contender barrel but this one in 6.8spc 11 with a 1-11" twist.

Here is a note for you potential Contender buyers you need different fore ends for different barrel contours and here is the most important thing for accuracy glass bed the fore end at the barrel lugs so that they are the only contact points between the fore end and barrel.

I would be interested in exploring this but let's be careful where we tread b/c I think a thread just got nuked for exploring interest in a particular item with multiple individuals...

Yep my thread got nuked - don't even mention "group" without prior approval. Helping out fellow gunnutz is not allowed without authorization.

Don't let other peoples insecurity stop you from being helpful to the community. :)

BTW I'd be happy with one in 6.5x55, but the prices for even the regular calibers have been insane in comparison to the US prices...even when our Dollar was more on par with the US Dollar.

Same old crap...

Like many here, I've been keeping an eye open for a Contender carbine... unfortunately, I passed on one a couple of months ago because it was in 45/70 and I was looking for a different caliber. I won't make that mistake again! Pistol Contenders seem much more common than carbine Contenders.

So what's a reasonable price to pay for a blued/walnut Contender carbine and barrel? Are they priced in line with used Encores or less/more? Judging by this thread and others, the Contenders are well-liked, so I'm surprised that I've only ever seen Encores and never Contender G2s at any Canadian retailer.

Also, any ideas where one could source a 6.5 JDJ and 375 JDJ barrel in Canada?

I'm going to bump this one just to gloat :)

I finally got a Contender carbine a couple of months ago and it's in one of my favourite chamberings - 7-30 Waters. Gorgeous walnut stock, although it's sure not helped out by the muddy plastic coating that TC puts on their stocks. There was a chip at the swivel hole, so I'm going to repair and refinish the stocks in oil.

I also don't know if it's typical, but the trigger on my Contender is wonderful. The only thing I'm not fond of is having to reset the locking mechanism to recock the hammer, but that's a relatively minor thing.

So for those still looking, keep your eyes open... they're obviously around but you have to be vigilant to pick them up before someone else.

Now to start looking for more barrels! If you've got any that you want to depart with, please let me know.
