Oakley

Would you be interested in Oakley rifle scopes? Think similar price to NF & Leupold but a more tactical focus. Please share your thoughts.

Please explain how they would have a "more tactical focus"? From what I've seen with Oakley products you're paying for the name not the product. Aside from offering some revolutionary reticle style, a more robust design or competitive pricing. Oakley optics have a slim chance of storming the market.

Inaudible grumbling........

THEIR FOCUS WOULD BE ON A MILITARY APPLICATION NOT HUNTING/SPORTING

Untrue Oakley are well made products, the man behind Oakley had also developed the RED Digital camera which is an innovation to the movie industry. If anything Oakley is one of the only companies that has technology behind there product.

I'm not alone when I say that Oakley glasses feel like cheap crap. I haven't had much experience with their other products so I can't comment. All I see are high prices and the usual expense associated with "cool gear". The optics game(as far as firearms) won't be something easily broken into. Perhaps with their cult like following they may have little issue. Personally, without something revolutionary in either product or price they'll be another brand option and nothing more.

I bought a pair of Oakley glasses 8yrs ago after dropping them thousands of times sitting on them bonking my head with them on they are still in great shape and still look great.

I want the half jacket shooting system as my next sunglasses.

I have three pairs of Oakleys the oldest being 10yrs the newest 1 yr. They are the best made frames and lenses I have ever used. In fact, I had my eyes saved by them in a fairly serious explosion with black powder that had me in the hospital for a while.
I think they should leave scopes alone though. Don't spread yourself thin, and stuff like that.

I would agree. They have a solid place in the sunglass market(not with me;)) and should focus on what they excel at.

And in boots and gloves for Mil.

And the owner started the most revolutionary camera co on the planed. (Red)

I`ve had a set of Oakley glasses 3 years now. Aint been treated real good for $250 glasses, but they aren`t any worse for wear, and are the best clear lenses I`ve had over the years. Can`t speak for the optics tho.

I have five different pairs of Oakley sunglasses. Two sets are used exclusively for protective wear, that being one pair for shooting and one pair for work in a metal shop. They have saved my eyes at the range and at the shop (I still have the pair of lens somewhere with a WICKED scar down the length of one lens). I love my Oakley sunglasses and will continue to use them until there is some indication that either they will fail me or that there is something better out there.

Now rifle scopes are a bit more complex but given what they have done for some other gear (boots and gloves) and for the complex beast that is a camera (especially in this day and age), I would certainly have a look at their product line of scopes (though dropping $2-5k on one might require a few testimonials from credible sources....)

Oakley is now owned by a big conglomerate not the founder. If jannard (I think that's his name) was to do scopes with the build quality of his Red system I'd buy one.

It is an excellent question but the answer depends really on what they can offer.

I would consider Oakley as much as any other brand. I would not buy just because it is Oakley, but I would not discard them just because they do not have history in the segment.

Any indication if they are going to have a holo-sight or just scopes?

From what I have heard they have put out a few different prototypes to be tested in the field (not sure what their plan is for holo or not). One report was some of the tubes are shaped oval like their logo. Another was that instead of using a dial to focus it was a push pull leaver (if that makes sense(?)).

It makes sense what you are saying.

If it gives advantages comparing to traditional shape/adjustment style, then why not? If I am not mistaken, then most of the people are looking for function, not for looks anyway, so why would they care if it is oval..

Owned several pairs of Oakley sunglasses, and have not been too impressed! For "sports wear" sunglasses, they aren't durable at all! Their Black Irridium coating scratches very easily! Had to change out lenses twice, and at $120 a pop, well do the math!! Also broke the frames once too:(! My Wiley X's are way better IMHO!

Are you referring to Oakley?

That is a different company you linked to and Oakley has been in the game for quite a while.
