Im going over some loads for my .270 and notice a great change in OAL length from all bullet weights. Im loading 130's and it gives a length of 3.250 OAL then you go to a 140 and its 3.335. This seems to be quite a bit of difference doesn't it???
Does a person looking to get the most potential accuracy want to have the bullet seated out to the max or should I follow what my Lyman guide says with this particular load.
Does pressure build up as you seat a bullet out closer to the rifling.

Cheers!!

A general guide is .030 off the lands, Barnes bullets .050. Some bullets are way longer than other even in the same weight. 130 gr Barnes TSX bullets in 6.5 mm are longer than 160 7mm sierra boattails. You have to measure the ogive to the lands and make that .030. Pressure can defintiely jump if the bullet is jammed into the rifling. My son's 270 Tikka lokes 130 tsx bullets loaded out to 3.44 inches OAL, that is .050off the lands, the gun has a long throat.
