I rechecked my OAL after I loaded 20 rounds and it varies 5 thou. I'm using once fired factory win. brass with Hornady 178 gr. A-Max bullets. I'm using an RCBS caliper, dies are Dillon. Is this difference due to slightly different shaped bullets?

The seater pushes on the bullet well down from the tip. The loaded round is very consistent with respect ogive to the rifling.

Bullets are very consistent in heel to ogive, but vary from ogive to tip. Hornady bullets vary as much as 10 thou. Sierra by as much as 20. It means nothing.

Yes, I would say a slight difference in bullet shape.
I would also completely ignore any miniscule differnce as .005."

I usually try to get all my rounds within 0.010" of each other. 0.005" is even better. No worries about such a small variance.
