I measured my 22-250 bullet right to the lands and I got 2.449 . Now I am told to move the bullet 3 thou of an inch back from the Lands and groves at a time for my best groups My question is what would the number be 2.446 or would it be 2.416 . I have never done this before and I am playing around with accuracy.

2.446. .001= 1 thousandths of an inch.

3 thou is 0.003" therefore your new number should be 2.446"

Thanks Gunstar thats what i thought but I had to make sure. Well I am off to the range with three loads 35 ,35.8 36 gr @ 2.446 oal
This out of my Savage model 12 in 22-250 with a 9 twist

Not sure I'd go that close - there can be that much variation from bullet to bullet in the same box, more from box to box! Try 30 thou for a hot caliber like that. Loading very close to the lands is generally over-rated, and can be quite dangerous.
