Oberndorf Mauser

It is what it is. I wish it was in original configuration but it's hard to find untouched examples that wont break the bank. I bought this one for the price of an average sporter, I also love that it's dated 1912, the same year Titanic sank.

Here's another one I had but sold, Large Mauser banner, double set triggers, originally it was a 8,0n (8x57) but someone re-barreled it to 6.5x55 and kept the original sight, and barrel band.

I like that extra large Mauser Banner on the receiver. I have one on a Modell S 7x57.1.JPG

What a beautiful 7x57 you have there! Hope to find something similar in the future.

Yes, it's a good one, in near new condition. It is also a rare one, built on the Reduced Medium Receiver (See Jon Speed, The Mauser Archive, p 112.)

I intend to shoot a deer with it in 2025 (It was made in 1925.)

I picked up an original Orbendorf model A (African) in 9.3x62 Mauser. It's a little different as has a 29" barrel with African 3 leaf sight, has a longer than normal fore end with horn tip. Barrel band on barrel, the only thing that wasn't original was a Pachmeyer pad put on in the 1960's, thank God the stock was not cut, the original curve wasn't cut off, so I just need to find an original Mauser banner butplate and screws to complete the rifle back to factory specs.
This gun came from an older fellow who's dad was a gunsmith for Ellwood Epps. It came with handloads, and gave how much higher or lower than the factory sights, as the loads were 270gr Speer bullets.
I am sure I can get it shooting to POA once I load sum 286-289 gr bullets.
This gun was built I believe in 1931.
I've never took it moose hunting due to the long open range I've been hunting the last few years. But am taking deer hunting for the 2025 season , should be fun 😊.
Don't ask for photos, as am Teck illiterate.
I was lucky a good friend put me on this rifle, as he didn't have the funds or knowledge of wether it was real!
Love the Mausers that the US master gunsmiths made in the 1930-50 period👍👍
Cheers ,happy new year, Dale Z
Sounds great. That's definitely a dream rifle for me. What sort of overall condition is it in?

if some of you guys ever have the chance to visit the museum in oberndorf in what is called the schwedenbau you will be blasted away

sorry ,no photos .... bin there many many times . ..... by the way heckler & koch and feinwerkbau both also located in oberndorf has some interesting arms in the museum

i just looked on google and there is some picks mixed with picks from the schwarzwald ( black forest ) museum there are both in the same building

Didn't know they have a Mauser museum, thanks for the info. I will try pass it if traveling the area. I did some work in the Mauser plant many years back and had a meeting with Heckler & Koch in Oberndorf as well. H&K did more than just guns then. Lived close by for the duration of my studies but never liked the area, apples don't even get ripe there...

What does this mean?
"Apples don't get ripe" is a saying in the area, other side of the black forest you can grow peaches. The area around Oberndorf is a high plateau quite cold and farming hard. Didn't like the people nor the place and was glad to get away after 4 years engineering school.

LOL

Maybe it was just the Engineering school...I remember my youngest brother after he returned to finish high school Math, and then did his Bachelors, Masters and PHD in Mechanical Engineering all in a row without taking any break. After that he wasn't in a very good mood and had bad things to say about the city where he did his degrees. It was on a high, dry, cold plateau where they can't grow apples at all...Edmonton, AB.

I'm really more into lee speed sporting rifles, but you guys are getting me all hot and bothered here.

Actually, I did have a real nice Danzig factory sporter in 6.5x55 that I shouldn't have let go. The cash got me a lee speed...but. hind sight

Rob the African is all original ,very nice, all the bluing is great for almost being 100 years old! The stock is great too, it's an well looked after rifle with no real abuse. If it was rough it would have been sent off for a full refurb. All matching serial numbers even the 3 island sight leaves, like I said just need to find an original or reproduction but plate. The forend of the the stock is I believe a 2/3 forend.
Rob if you send me your phone or email, can send a few pictures, cheers!

Very nice display. Could you describe a few of the rarest rifles?
There is 4 Type B’s , the one in 9.3 x 62 has a single square bridge action with a Zeiss Zielvier scope on it.
1 type A in 9.3 x 62
1 type K in 8 x 51
2 type S’s and 2 type M’s
One of the type M’s carries a Zeiss Zielsechs scope

The Rimfires

MS350 B
ES350 B Championship rifle
MS420 B
MS420

"One of the type M’s carries a Zeiss Zielsechs scope." At the top of the horizontal display?
What do you consider your best or favorite Oberndorf Mauser?
It would be good to see a few better individual photos.
