I've recently got the chance to get a Herbert Schmidt .22LR, I'm veiwing it tonight to see the condition but my question really is twofold, first what's this thing worth? Second, is it worth picking up?

$200 if it comes with both cylinders 22lr and 22mag and its in great shape. They are a cast pot metal frame, I had one a few years back.....single action .22 revolvers kind of suck. Slow to load and unload and fixed sights on these are not great.

I bought mine back in 1969 great little pistol. With practice it would hit the little box the shells came in at 20-25 yds. It is for those that do not need to sling a lot of lead as fast as you can pull the trigger. Sometimes doing things the old way with a piece that looks back at the older times works out just fine to. Mine is nearly in the same condition now as when I brought her home.

There are numerous models of Herbies out there. You dont mention which one you are looking at but generally the best way to describe them is that they do work for the most part. Notorious for getting out of time and repair is near impossible as nobody will touch them. I wouldnt pay over $150 for any of them no matter what condition its in. Just sayin'..

The fellow I spoke to isn't sure of the model, he's sure that it's a 22LR and that's about all he's sure of.

My older brother bought one in the early seventies and in the mid-eighties he found a .22Mag cylinder for it. It's been a great little pistol all these years, used but not abused and it shoots as well now as it ever did. As much fun as my Single-six at half the price. Ganderite and delta1 mirror the experience my bro has had with his. I imagine the timing issues mentioned are due to "fanning" more than anything. If you wanna spray lead quick, get an auto.
