Out of curiosity, I resized a bunch of 308 Win range brass with two brands of dies. I resized 25 of each, lubed with Lyman Qwik Spray Case lube, then measure the length to the shoulder, with a Sinclair shoulder gauge and a digital caliper and found the following:

Brand A Brand B
Average length 1.5711 1.5721"
Standard Deviation 0.0018 0.0010
Extreme spread 0.0085 0.0045

Brand A also required more force on the press handle to resize most of the cases, and a few from that side of the tray got me up off the seat to resize the case. Brand A also required more force to extract the case over the neck expander.

Each die was used with its corresponding shell holder, so there was no mix and match variation (I hope). No, I'm not going to name names, since a sample size of one die set from two different manufacturers is not even remotely reasonable. I may have gotten the best of one, and the worst of the other.

I didn't measure the shoulder length before resizing, since many of the case necks were out of round, and would not fit into the shoulder gauge.

I haven't checked the resized cases for concentricity yet.

I doubt that this variation in case shoulder length would matter for my shooting abilities, but I can see that there are some on here who would try to get things more consistent than what I have found. Has anybody else done any similar measurements on their resized cases?
