As applies to antique rifles, the commercial availability of the ammo no longer enters into the equation. Even with handguns commercial availability is not completely at issue but rather most common would be a more accurate description of the registrable calibers

Don't give the socialist element any further ideas, it's already bad enough as it is. I don't remember EVER reading about a gang shootout which used antique guns... usually, the "homies" prefer the latest stuff that manufacturers have to offer (and get it "off the truck" for way less than an antique would cost), therefore an antique firearm of any type is useless to them.
Then, there's the issue of the guns being "dangerous" to the other occupants of the house that live with the gun owner (favorite argument of the "Coalition for Total Control"). Well, if we take into consideration the PRICE of a shootable antique, it is also safe to assume that the guy/girl who buys it will also be able to afford a decent safe (or other security measures) to prevent it from being damaged or stolen, thus making it inaccessible for unauthorized people to handle.
All in all, any reclassification or better specification of "registrable calibers" (as you have put it) would be completely pointless, but it doesn't mean that some douchebag red-star politician (Layton, Iggy, etc) won't be pushing for it to make us all "safer" (think of the children!!!).
Anyway, they're too stupid to come up with something like this on their own, therefore their people will be looking in places like CGN first in order to get update ideas for their gun-grabbing agenda... personally, I would refrain from posting sh*t like that, because you never know if one of their university-degree trolls (ie. Elizabeth Mandleman or whatever) is watching. All we need is more commie nanny-state BS on our hands!
