Just a couple of days before the first deer hunt for the year and I am getting twitchy. I remember when we used the archery season as a scouting tool for the gun hunt as there were not that many deer around.
Over the years the deer numbers have increased and so has our success, nowadays we harvest deer regularly with arrows early in the season 8)
Toomer jumped a nice buck out of the cattails while we were duck hunting last nite and I spent the next two hours working the area trying to figure him out.
Swamp deer are the toughest and this fella seems to be very secretive, I would love to put a bolt through his lungs on opening day. I will formulate a plan off attack... now, who do I use for an unwitting pylon... :wink:

I will be hunting 82b Saturday morning. I have 2 additional antlerless only tags. Hope to fill'em both before the rifle season opens.
 
Thats right gth...In his unending quest to fight evil deer hunters... Sunray mistakenly read from the regular deer season list in the regs :lol: ... scroll down partner... you will find that most of Ontario is opened for archery/deer on the 1st of October :wink:
 
"unwitting pylon.." hmmmmm so thats wh you tell me to stand in the middle of the feild like that :x :lol: Can't wait to see what devistation is to beheld on Saturday morning......the silence of the early morning to be broken by the ...TWANG... of an Excalibur crossbow hurling a 100 grain muzzy and carbon bolt toward an unsuspecting buck.....ah I love fall and animals too...they taste great! :wink:
 
oct 1st is always great because deer opends and its my birthday :D

gonna be the big 20 this year :wink: hopefully if i get one its early so i have time to take care of it before gettin drunk :lol:
 
Good news from the home land. The old man went up to sit in a stand on Monday night to see what the deer where doing and put out some distance making flagging around the stands and he saw 2 does and 2 bucks (spiker and a basket rack 6).

I'm not home very often so my tags always get used first so the boys can keep on hunting while I'm backup here in moose country.

We have only 3 buck tags and 6 doe tags among 3 guys for the area, so the first few days the does and fawns are in big trouble. (Dont want to get carried away and fill the buck tags with spikers and have 3 months to go.... :lol: )

If we werent less than a kilometer from the CFB with an estimated 1600 (and growing) deer on it that makes a lot of sense. The apple growers around our area get all kinds of cull permts for does because of the huge amounts of deer. Better in my freezer than buried in the ground.
 
I agree with ya G/T we are in the same boat down here with increasing deer numbers.
We only WAIT until the gun season to shoot does to keep the Bucks around and active... when the gun season rolls around it is GAME-ON... we have made a conscious effort to kill as many does as possible for a few years now :wink:
 
Can't hunt on Saturday, but Sunday evening my son wants to try for the bigger 8 point that's hanging around his place ....and he wants me to video tape the sequence of events .
Was working on the stand at my son's place yesterday....in the evening saw 17 deer(including only 2 bucks, a 6 and an 8-point) at one time ...not as many as last year when we would count 30 out in the fields at the same time . More surrounding farmers are leasing out their property to hunters ....bummer...
I had to leave early , so didn't get to see the two bigger bucks that come out just before dark .
