October purchases

Uhhhhh, I dunno:redface:

Haven't shot it yet. Got to find some brass, bullets, 'n stuff. I would love to find a smokeless load for the 577/450.

That would look great with an Aimpoint on it koldt. Just weld a Pic rail to the barrel and you're good to go.

BTW. It's just plain .577 Snider. .577/450 is the bottle-necked Martini-Henry cartridge.

It is a Mark II** , the two stars ,**, show that it has a slightly different shaped breechblock than a II* and a cupped face on the hammer.

Oct for me

Hungarian 43M

There must be thousands out there! Why is mine the first I've seen here? ;)

Actually I bought this in two parts. I got the bolt on the weekend at the Tulsa show, and the rest I bought from Milarm last year where it languished for weeks.

Goes nicely with my 35M I bought last year also from Milarm.

As I recall, it is a very BAD idea to take the bolt apart.

Those both belonged to my buddy. He had an awesome collection, but made the twin mistakes of bringing himself to the negative attention of the RCMP by having his handgun safe stolen and then pressing them to find the thieves by phoning other agencies when he felt they weren't treating it with the proper seriousness.

This lead to unsafe storage charges & more serious harrasment.

The moral of the story is that you don't tell the investigating officers that they are morons. ESPECIALLY when they are.

Well at least one of the guns ended up somewhere good,...instead of a smelter....:runaway:

I picked up one last year and it was the first I had ever had in my hands. Excellant bore and only flaw in it was a portion of the safety lever was broken off. I look forward to doing some shooting with it with cast bullet loads.

By the way, I thought most 43M's were laminate stocked with a K98k style sling arrangement, not birch stocked with low mounted swivels?

check out this sample pic I ripped off GB.com

That's a 98/40.

I need to do more research, but as I presently understand it, the Germans (for some strange reason as they already had the 98K) decided to modify the 35M (the last purpose built military Mannlicher and one of the oddest firearms produced in that period) to shoot the 8x57. Afterwards, the Hungarians modified the 98/40 to create the 43M.

Approximately 60,000 98/40's and 20,000 43M's were produced.

Aside from what I can tell, aside from the sight hood and sling swivel positioning (and of course, markings), they are the very same rifle - no?

(ie, G98/40 = 43M depending upon country of issue - no?)
