October Purchases

Wwii Usgi 1911a1

An expensive month...

Not as nice as the US&S but it is a warhorse...

Nothin' wrong with that one....

I almost bought it myself but I was a little tapped out at the time....

Seems you're really cleaning up on the 1911's there NAA. Very nice.
Cheers
Geoff

No.... I didn't get that USGI in the pics above. I was saying I thought about it but I had just bought the US&S and was a little tapped out for awhile... That guy that sold it to me drove a hard bargain.... :p

Just picked up an original Winchester '97 Trench Gun (more properly US Combat Riot Shotgun M1917) from a board member. WW2 made, GHD inspected with a fain cartouche still visible on the butt.

WOW! Looks great! I picked up a norc copy instead.

Quick question too - what's the butt stock made of? The norc trench gun has a plastic butt stock but I'd like to replace it if it isn't accurate.

The wood appears to be non-matching. The fore-end is not stamped as it should be. The bolt is also non-matching.

That said, it was sold to me as a non-matching, with what was ID'd as a Mark II telescope.

The scope is however, a Mark III, the markings indicate that it is original to the receiver, all the screws are staked just once, and the fit is perfect.

It's as complete a getup as I can afford.

Here's a couple more pics:

Nice. I can't quite make it out, is the scope number stamped on the buttstock? If so you have a matching set, nice grab.

You know that if you remove the buttstock, the receiver s/n should be stamped on the top of the wood inside the buttsocket?

So the forend doesn't have the s/n stamped up near the nosecap on the bottom?

What finish is that on the receiver? My 44 BSA had a sort of black wrinkle paint that Peter Laidler said was right. You'd almost think a 1945 sniper would have been little used but who knows, maybe it was only the LB's that weren't used.

Wheaty could disassemble and lubricate that scope for you...might be an idea to get it serviced.

The butt's walnut with a bakelite butt plate.

I've got one too, and the butt is wood, with a bakelite Winchester buttplate. Boyds makes nice replacements:)
