odd 7.62x39 ammo

Can't find much of anything on white boxed German 7.62x39 ball marked 501 83 It has a bright green primer sealant and a magnet sticks to both the bullet and olive green case which looks plated? One place states 501 is Chinese?

A picture would probably help, but I may have found the same info as you already had where it states:
"501 (0501) Unknown Factory, Peoples Republic of China"

What leads you to believe it is German? Is it commercially packaged (like with a barcode) or generic packaging more suited for a military contract?

Sounds like possibly chinese stuff repacked in a east german 7.62x39 box. Do you have just the one box of 20 or a whole bunch?

From what I'm reading the green primer sealant may be Chinese repacked for East Germany. I saw the same boxes with red primers apparently repacked Romanian ?

Romainian was purple iirc
