Not sure what to make of this wanted ad in the EE. Is this reasonable or is it not a good idea to be transfering "damaged" handguns to people? :weird:

Quote: " wanted to buy - a cheap ( or free ) damaged handgun
Hello all...

I have an RPAL, and own a couple of rifles, but I want to be counted by Ottowa as a handgun "owner"... I figure the more of us the better! Years ago I did own some... wish I had never sold them now!

My problem is I have limited funds ( a wife and 2 kids ) ( and I don't want to have to sell the rifles )... so what I am looking for is a cheap ( or better yet free ) handgun you might have... it's ok if its damaged and cannot fire ( ie: rusted, just plain broken, etc ) so that I can re-join the ranks of Canadian handgun owners.

I am NOT looking for a handout... I will pay shipping and a reasonable cost, if nescessary. I am sure someone must have a broken down Ruger or S&W they don't want cluttering up their safe anymore!!

The entire point of this is so that I can be counted as an "owner" of a handgun.

I will in the future ( perhaps 6 months to a year ), when I can better afford it, get a better ( and working ) handgun.

I hope this isn't too goofy a request.

OKH" - end quote.

Hell ya, good on him.

Should the day ever come, I'll be transferring handguns to all of my friends who don't own them and may want them in the future.

I can understand the premise..”hey I want a handgun before they go extinct. No problem. How about a free frame or non-functioning gun.”

I get it.

Not sold on the idea the fella doesn’t have a hundred dollars for a M93 or something else (ie sell a rifle) but I have not spoke with him. And I also have two kids... and one on the way so I feel the dollar crunch…

I would love to get a nfg ar lower, just to get it registered just in case. I will be building one from scratch, but don't want to drop the $250 for a stripped lower just yet. That's a project in a few years.

You folks are dreaming if you think the government will "grandfather" anyone or any firearm. Expect confiscation or prohibition of your toys.

Even if this is true, at least the above person seeking a gun will be another person, on paper, that the government has to deal with. He will also be another handgun owner, on paper, that politicians will have to think about when introducing policy. Every vote counts to a politician so the more of us on paper that there are, the better.

I agree...strength in numbers.

Very true. I'm just saying. Don't count on the government to do anything but f*ck us every which way but Sunday when it comes to firearms.

I would suggest for him to look at the rifles, find the least favorite, easiest to replace, and part with it to get the $$$ to join the 'I own a pistol' club. Even a m-93 is only $150 at Marstar. Speaking for myself, if I want to cash up anyway possible, its suprisingly easy to quit take out, junk food, magazines, movie rentals, and drive less. There's your pistol in no time at all. Of course, I don't pretend to know his money situation or costs, so.........this is just one guys thoughts.

Don't see anything in the guy's post referring to the government or confiscation.

The posters intention is to purchase a used/broken pistol for the purpose of entering the restricted class. The theory is that once in the restricted class that the gov't will grandfather everyone who is already in the class to continue to keep their firearms. This belief is a myth. There is no requirement of the gov't to grandfather anything. Which is where my confiscation and prohibition comment came from.
