Brand new Benelli M4 purchased yesterday wondering if anyone knows or has seen this before on the Benelli? This is the recoil link behind the bolt, it’s some sort of very hard residue it will not come off not sure if it’s some sort of corrosion not sure, I have not fired the shotgun yet.

Doesn't look like its new to me. Looks horrible actually…

It will be interesting to see what comments come through on this thread from the “you get what you pay for” folks. And we all know what would get posted if this wasn’t a Benelli but rather a Turkish gun or something like a Mossberg…

The rest of the shotgun is perfect at least.

I have a feeling that you've just not supposed to look at it. As already posted, if the gun shoots OK then no problem. If it's a resin or a flux though, I'd remove it, if metal than you might get the 'you've voided the warranty' run around if there is trouble. Not sassing or impugning Benelli, merely listing something that COULD happen.

Yeah poking at it with a metal pick it ain’t coming off it is very solid. I managed to find a couple of others pictures online with the same thing but never a clear answer as to what it is.

It's called poor machining

Sad when its a $2500 shotgun

Beretta group is getting too big for it's britches, they started to run away with their o/u prices, a300 ultima was released with trigger issues, dt11 has laser engraved checkering for such an expensive shotgun, 690 and 692 was a flop, I have seen the trigger guard get loose on someones 694 gun

Poor ground casting IMO poor machining doesn't look like that surface especially since it appears to be a piece riveted in from the pic and if not effecting operation will last forever. Just looks ugly
Cheers

It will run fine, remember its a shotgun designed/made for Military and LE. Its not meant to look pretty its meant to work. There are a few rough spots on different areas of the gun that are visible, just not needed to be finished

Yeah... well... maybe... but it's not meant to be a crapulous agricultural AK style weapon either. I suspect the covid recovery period and related worker shortage may be involved in any cosmetic problems seen in recently made guns.
