This morning, a friend called me over to a table at the Regina show to see if I could ID a rifle.

It was an Model 1893 Turkish rifle, in original, unfiddled with, not refurbished or altered, get this - with a magazine cut-off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was brought to Canada from the Mediterranean area after WW1, hence the unaltered configuration. It is the only Mauser I have ever seen in person With a cut-off. It had an ugly scar on the barrel just forward of the top handguard, and the owner said you could see the dent inside the barrel.

Great to see such a rifle, and good on the fellow to bring it for others to see. It was a family heirloom and was not for sale.

Some info here: http://www.gunscollecting.com/english/long-guns/turkish-mauser-1893/

i have one of those rifles ,it was the only mauser made with a mag cut off ,i acquired mine at a local gun shop some time ago.post it on cgn for sale at one time and a fellow cgn member informed me of what it was and i kept it .

That is interesting. The old timers around the pickle barrel always claimed that feeding a mauser by dropping one in the pipe was a no-no...'controlled feed actions don't like that' was the oft repeated mantra.
Neat, thanks.

its a 5 min job , to fix this so the extractor will ride over the cartridge rim.

It is a no no. That’s a M93 based action, the vast majority of Mausers made are M98s, apples and oranges comparison your doing. The M71 Mauser and M71/84 also were able to be directly fed into the chamber but they were also designed for it as well.
