oem or aftermarket mags for Ruger 10/22

My apologize if this question has already been answered elsewhere on this site - I tried to search for the answer but I'm new here (and to forums in general) and haven't learned my way around yet.

Just brought home the Ruger 10/22 compact and now looking to buy an additional mag for it. Would like to get one of those 25 round mags if possible, but will settle for standard 10 round mag.

Should I stick with the oem mags or can we get decent reliable aftermarket mags here in Canada?

I read that an original Ruger 25 round mag is not available in Canada. I'm a stickler for reliability and simplicity of use - is there anything available that you personally have used and would recommend?

Ive had mixed luck with all the hi cap mags I allways go back to the factory 10 rounders since I like the flush fit.
 
Factory clear mags. With the tri mag thinger. Clear is nice to see how many rounds you have left and since they are flush they don't look bad like the clear long ones do.
I have 2 brand new steel lip 25'ers, and they are kinda iffy. Might need some wear in or something.
 
Believe me, I've had and tried most of the high cap aftermarket mags made for the 10/22
Some may work intermittently and then some days not work at all?
A LOT of them out there are one notch above JUNK plastic and scrap metal.
I've had great luck with the BC steel lipped mags as well as TI25 mags.
Nothing is as good as the tried and true Ruger 10 round box mag though....

I have a 25 round mag, can't remember the supplier but it functions flawlessly. HOWEVER, I personally find the 25's to be a pain in the brass. They hang out the bottom so far that whether shooting off the bench, prone, sitting or even standing, it interferes with my left hand. The best way I found to have a higher capacity mag is to buy a TRI-ROUND MAG HOLDER. This little gizzmo holds 3 of your own ten round mags together, 120 degrees apart. When 1 mag empties you just drop it, rotate and reinstall to the next full mag. This gives 30 rounds at your hands and keeps everything out of the way plus you can use original Ruger mags that function perfectly. It also gives you a good grip to remove the mags together. Best thing I've bought for the Ruger. Good luck with your choice.
 
I recently picked up an sr22 and a dar22 and have also been looking for reliable hi cap magazines. The ruger 10 rounders work flawlessly. The buttler creek, HC3R, and ti25 mags all seem to have FTF problems. It may be that both rifles just need to be broken in. Back to the range again this weekend to try again :)

FTF may be due to the quality of your ammo also...

It seems to depend on the rifle, too. I have 6 BC steel lip mags and between them they have had maybe 3-4 FTF through 1500+ rounds. Others have that many per mag... Ammo matters, too. Some brands don't work for me out of any mag.

The point made about the 25 rounders being a PITA off the bench or prone is fair, I have the OEM 10 round mag for those occasions. I also use the 10 round mag for my kids, they get tired holding the rifle up over 25 rounds and I prefer them having fewer rounds on tap, just in case.
