Well holy crap, I've been looking for you for over a week and when I do find you were at different corners of the ring!;)

You know your one of the best friends I've got on this site, hell I've got a set of your cards right here beside me on the desk, but what I'm trying to say is exactly what you said, yes, we do have to stay united, but if by the looks of this thread most of us have given up on the OFAH due to their acceptance and backing of some of the liberals new laws (wolf hunting, the registration, etc...). I know damn well you have no love for any of these rules or the registration. I think by what you've said is that we should hope that the OFAH fights a good fight on our behalf and from what I pasted on the previous page looks like thats what they're about to do but I'd like to see more and more people and groups get their sh&t together and fight alongside.:(

UNITED WE STAND, DIVIDED WE FALL.

For sure,

My problem is when push comes to shove will a bunch of urbanite fisherman stand with us and fight or negotiate to make sure there fishing rods are not banned next.

Lets say the OFAH has 60,000 members, I wonder how many are died in the wool hunters and pistol owners..........5000...6000 at best.

If those 8-10% that are gun owners would join the CSSA. I feel it would be a bigger card for us than an organization of fishermen.

I believe last count was 83,000 members. I know there are hundreds of member clubs (Gosfield North Sportsmen the one that I belong to is one of them). OFAH is in a precarious position when it comes to the political arena from what I can see. They are trying to stand up for us at the same time are doing much of the MNR's work for them using OFAH Biologists due to cut backs at the provincial level. We definitely need to be supportive of all the clubs and organizations and try to enact change from the inside whenever and wherever possible. If you don't like the way something is going then bring it up at a zone meeting and try to push for change instead of just saying screw you and walking away. We most assuredly need a loud and strong voice now.
So no matter which org you belong to try to be active and supportive.

Just my $.02

OFAH remained silent when the 1975 Bill was pushed through due to pressure from Eugene Whelan a Federal Minister at the time.

I have no idea if this is true, or why Eugene Whelen (long-time Minister of Agriculture) would have that kind of pull. But if that happened, it was thirty years ago, and this is NOW.

TODAY's fight is banning handguns. I do not own handguns, but this is sure as hell MY fight, because if they take these away, it is a long slippery slope to total confiscation.

You are either WITH US or AGAINST US. OFAH is WITH US. If we create or maintain divisions within the pro-gun community, we are doing work for those slime-eating oxygen thieves like Cukier.

Love to hate the OFAH. Not a penny from me anymore. They sold the hunters and anglers of Northern Ontario down the river on too many issues to mention. I am a card carrying member of the North West Ontario Sportsmen's Alliance and these guys get the work done. (NOSA) We don't call it Thunder in the North for nothing. Two recent issues resolved at district level include moose tag allotment in our zones and the conflict of the blaze issue during concurrent black powder and archery seasons. As for the turkeys, the biggest turkey is the Elk program with no money being spent on moose or deer management in this province. (Ontario) Sorry for ranting, someone took the tire out of my cage again....
cheers Darryl

A lot of pistol shooters belong to the OFAH because they have to. The shooting clubs I belong to require OFAH membership for insurance purposes. My bet that is the ONLY reason they put out their little release on the Paul Martin campaign promise to ban handguns.

The OFAH is in bed with the Ontario government. They call it a "business relationship" with the Ministry of Natural Resources to provide hunter's education. As they say, take the King's shilling and do the King's bidding...

They are grossly incompetent as far as government relations are concerned. They dropped the ball on the spring bear hunt. It was no secret that Robert Schad and his fellow travellers were planning a major campaign against the spring hunt. The OFAH thought it's good ol' boy tactics would work and ignored repeated warnings it had to become more active. Then they pissed away tens of thousands of dollars on a legal action that was doomed to failure at the outset.

I belong because I have to not because I want to.

Everything BIGRED said times 10 . They've had many chances and incrementally sold us down the river everytime with thier policy of appeasement and non-confrontation .

I was a member for over twenty five years. I went to the meetings and the dinners and I supported the #### out of OFAH. I thought I could make changes from within by working with the organization.... not! I saw the good guys get screwed and the good old boys get the gravy. I saw it turn into a fishing first club that could give a damn about conservation and hunters!
The member numbers are heavily padded and the truth is they don't have half that many members... they need to do this to bolster thier credibility with the government of the day.
They grab at our pocket for money every chance they get with a government assisted monopoly on the hunter education training and turkey seminars. All you have to do is look at the mailings from this club as a member to realize every thing they do is profit driven... send them more money... it is all about the money let there be no doubt!!!!!
This is supposed to be a not for profit organization.... there is one hell of a lot of administration cost's and you ony need to see the building the vehicles and the full time staff to figure it out. I wonder what the pension plan is like?
I know this sounds like sour grapes... but I have no bone to pick... it took a long time for me to see the forest for the trees with this old boys network.
If you want insurance you can get better coverage through many of the other organizations out there... CSSA offers 5 million in coverage OFAH offers 2 million for similar costs... your choice.

Yep X 20 :) :)

Being in bed with your enemy CAN'T be a good thing
Sell me out once I MIGHT give you the second chance.
Sell me out repeatedly

Hey Doug maybe you should trim some of that facial hair
It seems to be blinding you :p :D

Not to belittle anybody's generousity, but a $ 100,000 "gift-in-kind" donation is a whole different kettle of fish than a $ 100,000 CASH donation. You're lucky the OFAH took it ( the merchandise, - but then again, they'll accept just about anything that they can convert into membership, marketting opportunities or real cash) At the same time, I imagine that $100,000 Tax Receipt was a big bonus too. Cost vs. Retail .
Maybe it really is about the $$$$

Blow it out your ass, beretta boy.

For your information #######, I also give large amounts every year to the Salvation Army, a school for starving kids in India, a church to which I belong, and several dozen other charities. What do you do with YOR money other than spend it on toys like Berettas?

Ignorant mouth-breathing prick.

Doug

I agree with Doug on the donation issue... You owe him an apology berreta-boy... you are way out of line:mad:
I spent a lot of time and money supporting OFAH and I did it willingly... I am not ashamed nor do I regret it... I just won't do it now... I admit to giving up and walking away... :(
I have nothing but the utmost respect for Doug and his views.... ;)

I prefaced by stating "not to belittle" ... no offence was intended - and no apology will issue. There are lots of reasons for philanthropic giving. Mine is all in cash to several organizations - one of which puts me well-up into your GIK category as well. So I don't just buy expensive toys. I too have worked my heiny off vouluntarily for other organizations for more than 20 years . I contribute big money to conservation and other charitable organizations, and do fully understand the motivation for giving AND the value of tax receipts ! A good church-goer telling me to "blow it out my ass" and name calling indeed .... sanctimonious hypocite. No wonder you're an OFAH lover. Fits.

Yep, told ya's I'd lock my own thread.

Besides, it really doesn't look like we're getting anywhere here anyways, I just wanted an easy debate on the subject but I knew it would come down to this sooner or later right from the get go.

Beretta boy: uncalled for dude.

Doug: if you want a rebuttle p.m. me and I'll open it up for ya again, but I suspect you've got more important things to worry about than his opinion.
