Yo!
My wife and I leave on Saturday for the long long flights (5) to East Arnhemland in Northern Australia. We are going to be hunting with Muckadilla Safaris for water buffalo and maybe a pig or two .. Apparently it is great buffalo country but only so/so for the swine. Unfortunately I can't take my left handed Sako 416 Remington Magnum as we are going from Calgary viaLos Angeles and then on to Brisbane .. It is no problem getting a permit from the Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms dudes in Washington D.C. to leave the airport and go hunting in .. for example California .. (have to have an American hunting license ...mine is from Montana) but an alien .. in transit .. with guns that are loaded on the plane in Calgary and not seen again by the passenger until you are about to go through customs in far off Darwin .. no can do .. !!! Grrrrrrrrrrrr !!! What a silly law .. or lack of a law ...Anyways, I can borrow or rent a gun over there .. (I have the 5 page gun permit from Australia already to go .. just can't take my fine rifle with me .. ) The hunt is quite reasonable as dangerous game hunts go .. $1,700 each .. 2x1 ... 5 days and trophy fees for management cows at $300 and management bulls $900 .. these are the big sweeper type of water buffalo .. a different subspecies than the water buffalo I have hunted a couple of times in Uruguay ... and certainly different from the cape buffalo in Africa .. (Those hunts are roughly 5 times as much or more ...) I believe in getting as many experiences as I can as I go through this life ... and hopefully this will be a good one .. I'll be back at the end of July and post on how we did .. My wife is going along and has also shot water buffalo in South America .(in fact, it was charging !!). so is quite excited about this trip ..
Cheers !!
