Ya,BIGREDD, it should be... but... It's sure to get nuked there...

Seems the hunting forum allowed ryan roberts thread CHECK THIS OUT, to live over the weekend... Maybe someone will hear our pleas...

Cheers
Jay

I actually think off topic was a good thing... kept the flakes all in one bowl :p
I think this forum should be kept pure... a little levity and good natured fun is cool... but a whole bunch of nonsense threads only clutters up a forum and makes it hard to find something useful

I will not miss OT, and sure hope (with BIGREDD) that the granola types (fruits nuts and flakes) stay the hell out of this forum. If the pimple-faced kids with their imaginary gun collections want to leave CGN for other pastures where they can fantasize about stuff, I say good riddance.

Doug

PS) Yes, I know that some of the more mature members also enjoyed that forum....and I feel sad for them.

I found most of the OT stuff posted was just copied from other forums anyway.

Personally, I won't miss it. I want firearms knowledge when I come here, not "Holy Crap - watch this guy get own3d!!!" type stuff.

I do not miss it... they now have Gunbastard to sling their crap... after reading some of the post there I am now more steadfast in my resistance to bringing it back.

They cannot control themselves without rules and have starting turning on each other... their loss  Being over there gives you a distinct feeling... almost like watching the movie "Lord of the Flies"

Exactly! In my opinion this forum should be gun related only, it is called Gunnutz is it not. There are a million other forums on the net to waste time with bull#### if that is your thing. Why do we need it here as well?

I still don't get it. Don't like it, dont open the link, stick to the forums you do like. I dont like Ringette or cooking muffins, so I don't go to sites that exist for the purpose of furthering muffin baking and ringette lovers but I don't think the sites shouldn't exist. I choose to not go there, simple.

CGN is still a great site...but it has become rather bland the past week or so. Gunbastards is not a great site. They are two extremes it would seem. As for flipping between the two I described it at the Maritime get together as going from a Catholic School lecture on virginity to the Dock side in Liverpool. Mod...moderator..moderation! Too much of anyone thing is a bad thing. If people cant control themselves then they should be publically asked to leave...if they continue...close their account.

It takes more than the ownership of firearms to make a community...it takes more than a group of hunters to make a camp...it takes more than a sperm to make a DAD. It requires communication and understanding in all its ugliness. We cannot, god knows I've tried, live in a world without idjits...the best we can do is ignore them. Take away their motivation and the behaviour will also go away.

I voted undecided. I'd support a new OT forum but only if the purveyors of racism, tin foil hat hysteria, fascination with shaved scotums, and other forms of juvenile finger pulling had their posts removed immediately and were banned promptly and permanently. Strict rules, toughly enforced with no appeal and no second chances. There's no way the CGN can go back to the way it was. To do so would hand the slobbering idiots on the other site a massive victory and they'd be back bigger, badder and more stupid than before.

It's a better site without them but not necessarily without an OT forum although I understand why the owners dumped the forum.

Since the change I've noted some posters who I haven't seen in a while, a few new people and discussion about guns, hunting and the things I actually care about without the bombast and BS that has thankfully moved on.

I found that the off topic forum had some uses. For example, when I was having trouble with a University course in Logic, I posted my question in the off topic forum as a last resort (no tutors at University, proffessor unavailable). I got several replies and in particular, help from a young fellow in Toronto. I would not have gotten through the assignment without it.

Sure, there are some idiots who posted garbage there, but I thought the mods did pretty well sorting them out

For sure there was some crap!!!!!!

But (get ready to cry) I have never been on any internet forum that has this feeing of community.

I have gotten lots of great help in OT. My wife has been blown away at the good advice and knowledge I have tapped into.

OT was a moron magnet. Some of the posts were outright offensive.
OT was also an interesting mix of non-gun related information and discussion by some very good people.

OT would have benifited from more strict policies, and language restrictions. It is no doubt a pain in the butt to have to police a forum like that.

I'd like to see it return, but under stringent controls. Rather than reply to some moronic post, simply forward it to the mod's for deletion. End of story.

Regardless, the language restriction has helped to eliminate lots of the children that were causing the problems in the first place.

Once upon a time, I was a mod on this site. This is a thankless task, and could EASILY take up more time than most full-time jobs for which one is paid. There are not enough mods per ####### on the OT forum, and not enough mods, in general, period, to keep the site up and operating with a minimum of fuss for the average user.

The real ####-heads here were drawn to OT like flies to fresh dog turds, and no volunteer should have to police those pointy-headed oxygen thieves. I DO feel sorry, as I have said, for some of the more mature users who liked OT and considered it their "home" here on CGN. I hope we don't lose them because of this, and I am thinking of one guy in particular who has become a good friend of mine through this site. But when there is a cancer, sometime you have to excise some healthy tissue along with the tumours.........

BTW we went through this before, when we had a forum (the title of which I now forget) that suggested it was for insults and etc. I was the one (or one of the ones) that suggested we bring it back as "off-topic discussion" and moderate it closely. It worked for a while............ :?

I think that sums up Gunbastards quite nicely. I, for one, enjoy the current setup. You can tell alot about people when you see them at their most childish. I just hope nobody takes Gunbastards seriously. It would be a complete dis-service to drag the rantings and ravings over at GB's into what could be one of the most respected firearms discussion board's in North America.

I few years ago, I was told by a number of people that they would not use 'Gunnutz as a resource because of the 'bad taste' the OT left in their mouth. Hopefully that can change and make this one of their goto places for top quality information and truly Canadian content.

Cheers

IBTL :D

I don't miss it. Never went there much anyways. Once and a while it was a good place to post a joke, but most of the stuff there I wouldn't want my kids to see.

I'd rather see this place more appropriate for all ages and gender, including the avatars
