Offhand Only Please (Targets)

I smacked a 10" gong 2 times out of 3 off hand at aprox 400yds with a SS Browning A-bolt in .300wm topped with a Leupold VX-III 3.5-10x40mm.

Correct me if I'm doing the math wrong, but thats about 2 1/2 MOA right? You sir, are a good shot. My M305 with Wally World 150s does about 2 1/2 MOA off my tail gate at 100m.

This is what I'm talking about. Any more takers? I'll try to do the same next time I'm out (in a couple of weeks probably).

Is there a caliber restriction on this? I can easily hit the broad side of an abandoned travel trailer with my 45/70 and open sights. This should be a piece of cake! lol w:h:

Sounds like you should start shooting silhouette competitions

Maybe are there comps in Ontario?

I have just become good at timing my natural movements and breaking my shots at the same time. Could I do it again who knows we were shooting prone and I was just screwing around with my last 3rnds of the day. I didn't even think I would connect at all.

I call B.S.! Now how many members?;)

Hey you and JeffN were there jerk! :D that makes 2

i can believe the guy it is very do able... does anyone shoot silhouette at all ??? you guys should give it a try. small bore is fun but the high powered matches are awesome.

Beaverfur is just razin me he was one of the witnesses to my once in a lifetime feat.

Sounds like the beginnings of a mis winter offhand any sight any rifle postal match. Anybody want to step up and do it formally or do we just do it informally in this thread?
A reason to shoot at least. If you need one that is. :)

He posted in the precision section otherwise it doesn't belong here if we aren't talking precision rifles.

if we are talking shooting off hand with regular hunting rifles i'll have this thread moved
300 meter ISU, national Course, and silhouette are all shot offhand with what are considered precision disciplines.....

I did this last summer... only witness was my dad. So take it for what it's worth. Shot with a 6 1/2 pound 325wsm.
The point of aim is on the fold just under the 22lr holes (sighted 3" high at 100).

I know. he recommended a hunting rifle. I know a precision rifles doesn't have to be heavy, taking biathalon .22 rifles for example as well.
Well, we DO have a hunter class in Silhouette!:D
however, my ruger No.1 does not qualify for hunter as I am using an aftermarket barrel that is not a factory taper, and in a non standard cartridge ( 6mmBR)

I've found training with a pistol has helped me to signficantly improve my offhand rifle shooting for 'tactical' precision matches. I needed to relax and learn that the sight picture doesn't need to be perfectly stable, it just needs to be floating over the center of the target when the trigger breaks. A good muzzle break helps too.
