I'm not sure what you meen by intermediate.
There is pistol carbine mid lengh and rifle
Mid length give all the benfits of rifle length but with the option of useing carbine buffers and stocks with no issues .
Not that you can't use a rifle length gas system wirh a carbine buffer.AKA C7A2
Mid lenght is just idea for 14.5 to 18.5 inch bbls

Intermediate, designed by Vltor I think 1.5” shorter than rifle length. I have it on my 18” Noveske barrel and it’s very soft shooting and reliable. Not a big deal though.
