Official 2019 Wild Turkey Thread

breaking clays is great and all, but whats your pattern look like at that range, and what are you odds of ruining meat?

At that range most pellets wont make it thru the feathers and wings.
I was just alluding to the fact it could be done. My pattern is about 32" circular at 70 yards

I also shoot skeet with this scoped shotgun with the turkey choke. Stations 3 thru 5 and 8 are tough lol

Was mailing an option? I was under the impression you were to print it out at home, or keep the digital copy on your phone and with you at all times.

I believe it was, at least a few years ago. It looks like a "print on your own device" type thing now.

I see, in previous years they used a plastic type of paper.

Thanks.

Yes it was, they ended that this past year. This is the first year with paper tags. And while you need to carry the tag with you and notch the tag as in years past, you don't need to attach it to the bird unless leaving it unattended.

7 days and counting....

One week from today we should start seeing the first pictures of successful hunts...

Any one got any trail cam footage yet?

I've never been particularly concerned about testing the turkey gun out past 40 yards. I've never seen a bird at 40 that I couldn't get to come in to 15.

Never considered penetration being that weak at that range.

Then you are either the world’s best turkey caller or you haven’t been turkey hunting very long ;)

Probably the worst caller I know. And this is only my third season. What I meant was when I see a bird "hung up" they are well outside of range. I've had many birds hung up at 75-80 yards that wouldn't come any closer, and eventually walked away. One that hung out for more than an hour and orbited my decoys like a satellite just out of range and nothing I could do would get him to come in. Soft, hard, long, short, silence, pot, box, diaphragm nothing. My point was that if they come in, they come all the way in. Usually once they commit I shut the fvck up, and they usually come all the way in, on more than one occasion to lay a savage beat down on my decoys.

Trail cam will only be showing rain for the next little while. About 70mm coming our way.

I know it's new technology with few people owning such rare items, but I do believe some people use red dots and scopes on their turkey guns....

Got sick of waiting for decent weather, so finally got out and patterned it in the rain tonight. It’s odd not seeing a single hole appear in the scope when you pull the trigger. I’m happy though.

The long beard patterned... ok. I was hoping it’d be tighter. It’s about 20 inches at 30 yards. I might still give the federal flight control a whirl.

New shirt in the mail:

Do you have another mag? Seems like that one will be popular with the CO's.

With the forecast as it is ....is it legal to hunt turkeys from a kayak? I may need it to move around in the woodlots lol
I might actaully wear waders or at least hip boots to reach my fav spots
