A contemporary manufacturer making 1911s isn't a modern car. It isn't Mercedes making the E-Class, and it being recognizable to the Ford Model T. It's more like if Mercedes made Model Ts, because the car has all the Model T parts, looks like a Model T, and functions like one. A modern car is a Walther PPQ, or some other polymer, double-stack 9mm, striker-fired pistol. JMB would probably still understand how it functions, because he was a smart guy, and firearms aren't terribly complicated machines.

I would probably call a beefed up 1911 "proprietary" sooner than "evolved".
