To those that feel that using a bronze bore brush ruins a barrel.....or excessive cleaning like a lot of us short range BR guys do.....

Maybe a stainless brush that I have seen sold in some stores.

Don't do that with a stainless brush... a stainless brush wears a bore something fierce... steel on steel...

We have one store at home that has Stainless brushes on the shelf. I mentioned to the staff, word of advice they should not be selling them. BAD JUJU on barrels. He looked at me like WTF do you know.....

Wipeout and nylon brushes. Will get any barrel clean. The trick is to give time to the Wipeout to do its job properly.

The key with wipeout is time. The accuracy that those of us who shoot short range BR strive for, not enough time. With the strings that FClass shooters or the occasional cleaner does, does the wipeout REMOVE the baked on carbon by just soaking? Just asking for an honest answer here.

Yup, it will eventually, but before I use Wipeoout I use a carbon cleaner like Amzoil or Mercury Quicksilver power Tune, and i use them on a regullar basis.
However, there are tiimes when JB's and Kroil is needed.....

A properly lapped barrel will come clean with 3x wet patches, followed by 10x brush strokes, then 3x wet patches and a couple of dry ones. No soaking required. For this use patch out in a bottle, not the can.

The easiest barrel to clean I ever had was a chrome lined Criterion. It was lapped before the chrome lining. The brush was optional for that one.

Whether or not this will be good enough for BR that I wouldn't know.

Nice video. I just brushed my new stainless 5r barrel 100 strokes with a bronze brush to clean it first time and it worked well. I also rotated a 50 cal brush in the chamber. It looks great.

Oh trust me I know about cleaning barrels and what works. The link was more in response to those that feel barrel break or excessive cleaning will prematurely wear a barrel out. Bad cleaning practices, better yet using the wrong cleaning tools/supplies will ruin a barrel faster than running a bronze brush thru it or over cleaning.

A factory barrel is more work than a aftermarket barrel but a aftermarket does not need to soak overnight to clean properly if cleaned regularly.

Anyhow this is not about how to clean just a show of rough treatment with a bronze brush.

After purchasing way to many cleaning products, I now know a bore camera is the only way to know how effective your cleaning process is.
Under a $100.00 shipped now too.
Any time I hear this or that process is the only way to go I wonder if the results have ever been verified .
A bore camera image will shock many, especially with neglected carbon, nasty copper fouling and the condition of new to you guns.
Wipeout over night is a decent place to start but after a trying a can and checking results, it will 100% not git rid of carbon and copper neglect in one night or even two.
My routine now is to not let carbon or copper build if possible,(every barrel is very different) once you figure out what works the results are 100% and much faster than patch and hope. Check most when I'm done. Takes 1-2 minutes.
Bore guides and proper fitting rods are a must.
Now using CLR for carbon and an initial crude mop then Shooters Choice for copper. Isso for real nasty fouling and carbon ring.
Bronze brushes are a must for my process.
Have a great night all.

A friend knows a cap who manufactures stainless steel mirrors. Took a stainless steel mirror, and scrubbed it with a bronze bore brush. Scratches.

Ok but was material removed? Surface finish is something that can change without the material actually changing size, and I'm talking 0.0001" or less. You can ruin a /8 finish on a stainless steel part just by measuring it with calipers or, if you try hard enough, your fingernail.
