I must be watching this forum too closely.
Yesterday I purchased a Colt law enforcement carbine. 16", flat top etc.
I would like to replicate a C8A2 as closely as possible complete with an Elcan.
Any suggestions as to how I should proceed?
I look forwards to your comments.

BTW, Where can you buy an Elcan in Canada?

I'd be a little leary of buying an older elcan. Wolverine should have a new one for about a grand(ish).

The latter is brand new and still has the tritium illuminated reticle. But apart from the Elcan, what else are our guys putting on C8A2's?

A butt number.:D  :p ;)

But seriously you don't have to put an Elcan on anymore some have EOtech's now.:)

..these scopes have a very good reputation for their durability and ease of use.
For what’s its worth they ARE very easy to use with a great FOV and are very durable/tuff (seals etc.) they just don’t hold 0 in the field if you bang or drop the rifle on the scope. They are fine as a range scope IMHO.

Is this a good sight for that gun.

EOTECH is being issued in theatre as well as the new generation elcan.......you sometimes roll the dice with older Elcans. The newer versions are significantly better...

Cheers

C79A2 = Still a crap shoot
-- by end of tour we had a number that would not hold zero -- and they came NIB 2 months before tour...

The EOTECH 552 revE's we had we not bad -- but not up to the durability of the RefF.

A few of the guys off this trip where trying to get ACOG's and S&B Short Dots do to the different needs (one day CQB one day longer engagements)
No idea if they ended up buying them as I could not source them fast enough from here.

FWIW - the CF did not call them the C8A2

C8 - carry handle 14.5" pencil bbl
C8A1 - flatop 14.5" pencil
C8SFW 16" heavy barrel (flattop) KAC M4 RAS
C8FTHB (C8SFW with the we are too cheap to buy a RAS, TRIAD-1)

Do yourself a favour and skip the Elcan. Most of us have gone back to iron sights just to be rid of the Elcan. It is accurate out 25m, if you have a good arm!
A scoped rifle within the section is a good idea, but we have just grabbed regular hunting scopes in some cases. Irons are better IMHO.
YMMV,

I have an Eotech 552 rev F and I like it. It works very well, even in the cold with lithium AA batteries. I also like the Aimpoint M2 and M3. Stay away from the Leupold Mark 4 Star Wars sight!! It looks good but the glass is small... I don't like it. I have no experience with the Elcan or Acog apart from holding them in my hands!

I picked up the law enforcement carbine today and it looks great.
Regarding some of the comments re ELCANs, I'm going to start with iron sights. The gun in question looks like a flat top C8 carbine - 16", bayonet lug, barrel indent for launcher, 4 position butt etc. but has a Swan #38 with pop-up rear sight. I wasn't aware that there are actually two rear sights on this adapter. A 'standard' sized opening and a really small orifice, painted sight.
A must say that the right hand engraving "Restricted Military/ Government/ Law Enforcement/ Export use only" is pretty cool.
Thanks for all the comments.

A follow up question,
Is there anyone in Canada pinning Colt manufactured 30rd mags for retail sale?
Regards,
Maxim08

i don't belive anyone is selling pinned colt mags new. most shops order in USGI mags and sell those. colt mags are made by OKay or center or someone like that anyways.

what colour are the handguards on a C8 anyways? green or black?

oh, oh, I think that this is a loaded question...
I have been handed C8s 3 times now by Colt Canada staff. Each time the weapon was all black.
Do I get a prize? A box of 5.56?

Thanks to all who offered up information etc all through the black and green rifle forum.
I expect that I will be asking for all sorts of assistance and advice in the future.
Here's what I got a few weeks ago.
It's a Colt and it's black. If only it had a little maple leaf on the left hand side.
Thank you all,

I've taken the next step in this project and got an ELCAN via the CGN exchange. Showed up today. Here it is.

Next up are a TRI-AD 1 MIL-STD-1913 accessory mount and a Colt Canada style sling loop. Any recommendations for a supplier? Best bet for CF style sling?
