Oh Sh!t

I loaded a bucket of 32 S&W Long revolver ammo last night. It was 2 am and I wanted to load some 32ACP as well.

All I had to do was make a few changes to the die settings on the Dillon and I cranked out some 32ACP.

The powder charge for both loads was the same, so no change was needed to the powder thrower.

Oops. The shorter 32ACP case did not move the powder bar far enough to drop any powder. Every case is empty!

If it was 9mm, I might just toss them, but I don't have all that many 32ACP cases, so I will have to pull the bullets and hopefully save both case and bullet to be loaded again.

Next challenge is how to do that, easily and quickly.

A revolver should do it.

On my RCBS Rockchucker with Piggyback attachment I have a Powder checker which stops the Press hard if no or to much Powder is detected. I also have a custom made Plunger for the .32 Auto Shells.

If you ever fired a Bullet on top of a stuck Bullet in the Barren then you know for sure a Powder Checker is a very worthwhile investment. Guess how I know that !

Cheers

As a matter of fact, I have done that. Split the 45ACP barrel open.

My usual practice is to use a powder that overflows if there is a double charge. In this case, there was no over flow....

On a Llama Gabilondo in 9 mm the Barrel bulged when another Bullet was fired on top of a stuck Bulle. Barrel did not split just bulged and preventing the Slide from coming back. Factory replaced Barrel no question and no charge.

On a Star in .32 same thing happened. Instead of sending her back for repairs, used a Mandrel to hammer Barrel back in shape. Since then the Pistol shot at least another 500 rounds trough that Bubbad Barrel. Interestingly no noticeable drop in accuracy on Targets up to 30 feet.

Ever since I am using the RCBS Powder Checker no further issues and can highly recommend this tool.

Duh! I have a 30 cal bullet puller mounted on my press, 24/7 It did not clcik in my mind that the 32 ACP is a 30 cal bullet and I could have just pulled the bullets.

So I fired them in a 32 revolver and tapped the bullet out of the forcing cone. It went quickly, but I had to reprime the brass and tumble it clean again.

Note: The 32ACP is a semi-rimmed case, so will load ok in a revolver. However, it is a much higher pressure round than a regular 32 revolver round, so should not be shot in a revolver - especially the old break-action guns.

I have one of those bullet puller hammers . they work okay . done something similar myself , they are waiting for me to pull them out of their cases a seat them to the proper depth . time will tell when that's going to happen .
