Oh what have I gotten myself into?

I just started out shooting clays myself. I'm having a blast. It's nice when a shot that just barely nicks the pigeon counts the same as a full hit as opposed to target shooting where your score gets dinged if you're out even by a hair.

I managed to find a good price on an 870 Express Super Magnum at SIR Mailorder. $400 with all fees, taxes and shipping included.

Enjoy it while you can, Calum. After the clays bug bites, you need several new shotguns (at least one each, for you and your wife).

Then, when you least expect it, you get lured into trying the heroin of shotgun sports - upland birds. Then, you're really in deep! No longer are a couple of varieties - lets say pumps and O/U's - enough. Now you lust like a crazy man. You need SxS's. Note the plural, because one is never enough. You start experimenting with gauges. Can a 16 be as sweet as they say? Would a finely crafted 20 be quicker than an exploding ruffy?

No one will ever know. Because when you come back from that trip, you've changed. Every year in September, you hear the siren's call...
