After much humming and hawing I broke down and bought an Alfa proj 4.5" 9mm revolver from Wanstalls tonight. Although I've heard a few mixed reviews the reviews have mostly been positive and the price was right. I guess we will see.............

Now that I've done this , would someone please go on the EE and buy either one of my Grand Powers or my CZ? :d

Your selling your CZ shame shame :)

Keep the CZ. Really......

And while you're waiting for the transfer papers to get sorted drive up to Mission and get one of Rusty Wood's spring kits for the gun. You can thank me after you try the stock and then RW spring.

Ooops, maybe just mail order it. Your post made it sound like you dropped in and just picked it out in person.... :d

Thanks.....Is there much to installing one of the spring kits? I'm not much of a do it yourself-er. Although, I did manage to successfully remove the MDS from my Hi-Power. ;)

lol yeah, not driving to Rusty Wood just for some spring kits.

On a related note, im pretty sure Rusty Wood is one of the only places you can get moon clips for your new gun.

Bought mine from Rusty ,pretty nice revolver (bought the full length cylinder) ,he also threw the spring kit in for free.

I also bought my moons from Rusty.

Hey ,it `s a pretty nice gun for the price (bought mine when he had his Christmas sale ,about $ 450) nice lockup well built overall.I bought the stippled Walnut grips from him also ,gun fits my hand better with them than the stock grips (bigger hands)

No complaints !

How did you find the wood grips they are selling? I think I read somewhere on here where somebody had issues with fit/overall quality. Were yours OK?
Which ones did you get..... finger grooves or the traditional target grips?

I got the finger grip stippled pair.Somebody mentioned they had a problem with the hammer ,when cocked ,was touching the top, back portion of the grip, no problem on mine ,although it is close. If it did interfere with the hammer in full #### .a little dremel/sanding and a bit of walnut stain would fix it up no problem.

I did however need to carve out a bit of the channel to fit the frame of the gun, as the grips, when put together, left a small gap (but really ,not that much to be concerned about)This took me about 10 minute with a small carbide conical burr on the old Dremel.

The walnut grips fit me nicely.

Send it to me along with a few hundred rounds of ammo... you know, for "function-testing" after I swap the spring.

There was a thread sometime back about trying to get someone in Canada to produce them for us.

Because of the thin and springy material and the need for a really flat product I'm thinking that it would need to be either water jet cut or perhaps EDM'ed. I don't know enough about water jet cutting to know if it can manage the tolerances we'd want.

Hammer/grip problem was my Dads gun. I sanded it down in about 5 min. It exposes the frame a wee bit more, and I made a rounded V for the hammer to clear better as to not expose any more of the frame. After sanding with 400 grit, I put a clear on it, but the colour does not match, and I bought some walnut stain to get it closer, but have not had time to redo yet. The seam on these grips is stellar though.

I'm real close to getting a stainless 9mm with the full cylinder and 4.5" barrel but with the lack of commitment on moon clip availability has me wavering...
TK Custom shows wire EDM when making their moon clips.

I even checked Brownells on the off chance they were carrying them for the US imported Alfas (Czechpoint) but no luck. The US Czechpoint site lists them but is out of stock.....supply seems to be an issue.

Although the revolver comes with 2 moon clips and I bought an additional 2, I wish I had bought a few more.

Did you contact Rustywood and ask if more were coming in ? I find they are very good at returning emails and phone calls.

Oh ,sorry ,I see you already asked about them.Hope they get more in soon ,could use a bunch more.

Alright then ,was looking at handguns for my wishlist on the Wolverine Supply site ,and see they have moon clips for the Alpha 9mm for $12 bucks a peach.A little pricey ,but available if you need them now.

They are listed in the accessories/handgun section.

Thanks for the head's up. That is a little steep isn't it? Especially when you compare with moon clips for various S&W revolvers from Brownells for as little as 2-3 dollars a piece and up.

This is what I got back from Rusty Wood.....

"They are on order from distributor but they are waiting for shipment to come in.
There is no ETA on when we will have more."
