So my Girlfriend completed her restricted course last week... sent off the app yesterday. Today I get this email:

I would like a revolver… preferably a double action versus single action…. Can you find something that would work? Pictures too…

So gentleman... let's here some suggestions. She's got small hands and finds by beretta 92 a bit too large for her finger to reach all the controls... the only revolver I have now is the Raging judge magnum which is not small be any means.

I'm thinking something nice in 38spl\357 with a 4.2" barrel. She seems to like SS over blued.

Suggestions welcome... I'm pretty excited to get her something that she'll love the feel of.

Any particular reason for the 4.2 inch barrel?

A S&W L framed 686 is the classic answer to this question. The barrel length is a tougher one though. Most of them are the full 6 inch length.

My own tastes steer towards the classic blued K frame guns such at the Model 14 and Model 19. With the half lug barrels found on these the feel of the balance is no worse than holding up a shorter 4.2 inch full underlug style revolver. And the longer distance between the sights definetly makes it easier to be more accurate.

Yeah, I'm thinking the Ruger will be on the bulky side of things.

686 is all I can think of for what's available in Canada in stainless. I think one dealer here has Charter Arms revolvers in stainless, I guess that's another option.

But if you can tempt her away from stainless (maybe a few Dirty Harry flicks are in order!), you'll have a few more options.

I am still honeymooning with my recently acquired 1962 S&W Model 10. 38 Special, six inch pencil barrel, nice svelte frame, great balance... Amazing trigger, and far more accurate than I'll ever be able to appreciate. They come up on the EE every once in a while. I saw one new production Model 10 available at a dealer here, too.

The other nice thing about the K/L frame line is that you can really change the aesthetics (and feel) of the pistol with a huge variety of different grips. Maybe have her look at "ht tp://ahrendsgripsusa.com/retro.htm" to get some ideas

686 with 4.2" barrel just popped up in the EE:

Pretty durn chunky looking with that full lug.

Not much options in a 4.2" barrel...

I agree w/the GP100. For a small handed woman I would recommend the grips that I got for mine. I am a man but also have small hands and those houges that it came with really do not do the trick.

I ordered those from brownells in the states. Total cost was somewhere around $40, I think. They are smaller even than the old GP100 grips you've seen on older variants (they came on 3" versions in the states I believe). A nice pair of wooden grips would also do the trick. Anything that doesn't have finger grooves.

Alternatively, and perhaps ideally, you could get her one of the new Ruger SP-101 4.2" .357mags. Being a smaller gun I imagine she's going to cry shooting magnum rounds thru it, tho. As well, I don't know if you can buy them yet

Might be just fine if you just get an older smaller frame S&W off the EE or used from a local store or gun show or something as well. Unlikely that you'll get the barrel length you want, however.

K-frame model 19 S&W
or Ruger Security Six (used)

/\Agree. Can't go wrong S&W K frames like the 19 or 66. Personally I prefer the Ruger Security Six that I ditched my extra 686 for. But these don't come with 4.2" barrels.

Or if you can find a Ruger SP101 in .357 (I know they are available in .22LR), that would be the bomb and could be your only choice in a smaller framed 357 in 4.2" IMO:D

Well the 4.2 was only because she liked the shorter barrels... I already had to break her dreams of a few of the 3 inch she was googling... and some of the small purse guns that came up.

I prob could talk her into a 6" especially if it's shiny lol... she's like things shiny
