How about bringing in the OOW 1918A3 semi receiver kits they offer? Would you be able to do that and how much if you could? The OOW website lists the kit for $2,061.83. What would the final price be for one after all the importation hoops have been gone through?

Might be a more attractive option for those that already have most of the 1918a2 BAR parts and just need the approved semi parts to put their own together. I might be in if the price is not outrages.

This also could be an option for those that have a converted (12.3) 1918a2 but can no longer shoot it. Seeing how the receiver is the part that is prohibited they could take theirs apart and put the usable parts on one of these semi receivers.

Well it is a beautiful gun, and one that I have lusted over for many a year, but I can not justify that much on a single firearm with pinned 5 shot mags.

All the power to those that can afford it, I'll pay to fire it and help offset the cost. :p

I got so excited until I saw the price :( oh well.

If these came in at 2-3k I would probably get one. I don't know why, but I would.

Most of the main parts for the BAR are pricey. I bought a brand new barrel and it cost me $550. The gas tube is around $350. I thought a 1919a4 was pricey till I started with the BAR. lol

Sorry if this is slightly off topic Since theres no export ban on belt feds could we in theory bring in a m240 self loading rifle ? If one had the funds of course lol

$6,000 is pretty cheap. A good basic custom bolt action hunting rifle costs that, a nice one costs double that. A double rifle starts at twice as much too, this is a lot of gun for the money, and a true work of art few others will enjoy. Price is entirely justified, they're not building 200 of these a day.

Absolutely.
Now just waiting for the Bren....

Hmmmm. I just might have start being a professional gentlemans companion to afford one.

We have been bandying around the idea of getting hold of a semi-automatic M1918 BAR rifle as a partner piece for the James River Armory M1 Garands and M1903s we have been bringing in, and we recently were asked to bring one in for a customer on a special order. This made up our minds for us, and we decided to go ahead and do so.

So, in LIMITED NUMBERS, we are special ordering the Ohio Ordnance Works M1918 BAR Self-Loading Rifle for interested parties. These are new receivers individually built by OOW on an exclusive semi-automatic-only tooling; some of the other parts such as stocks and so on are original USGI issue stocks taken from destroyed and demilled M1918 BARs. Since parts are extremely limited and the semi-auto tooling is very time and work intensive, these rifles are built one by one, to order, and are subject to OOW's standards of quality at every stage of the build.

OOW's products have an excellent reputation for quality in the United States and are known for more than just their BARs -- they make excellent AK47 receivers and a semi-automatic M240 Self-Loading Rifle as well. They also produce a licensed copy of the VZ58 for the US market to comply with US import laws. They have a great attention to the quality of their machining and finishing and it shows -- their BARs are machined better in many places than the originals were.

These are available on an extremely limited basis and can be had with the Bakelite stock or an American walnut stock. Please contact us to discuss availability and ordering!

Cheers,

Always loved a BAR and wanted one for as long as I can remember and I'd REALLY like to get one of these. However, thinking hard about the $ value, apart from the attention you'd get at the range (and I know guys that will buy it just for that) what will 6K actually get us?..Basically a semi-auto pinned to 5 rounds...I've got 5 of those rifles already for less than one of these BAR's. I'd still like one though:)

Nothing about this is for practicality, or all any of us would own are .30-06 Winchester and Ruger bolt actions. :) It's for those that would like to own a BAR, something different, it's a terrible actual use rifle- too heavy etc. It's like a classic car.

Well before Bill C-68 I was at a local gunshow and a guy had a semi converted BAR sitting on his table for sale. Think he was asking around $900 for it. I'm still pissed at myself for not driving over to bank machine and getting the money out to buy it.

A practical gun? Nope. Heavy a** gun? Sure is. Cool gun??? Damn right it is. ;)

I have already submitted a request for an import permit to see if I can bring in one of the OOW receiver kits, since I already have most of the BAR parts.
