Been away from handguns for a while. Do polymer type pistols prefer oil or grease on the slide and frame?

Thanks, Leo.

I use slip 2000 grease its like franks red hot I put that sheeet on everything ! I stay away from non firearm grease tho that is not the same thing. I rarely use oil anymore after discovering the slip 2000 grease because oil doesn't like to stay where you put it and disappears after awhile like a sock in the dryer. A very light coat of grease and i have a couple firearms I have stored and not shot in a couple years now but check occasionally and still perfectly lubed and ready to go.

I have a CZ P-09, I have tried Gunzilla CLP, Ballistol Gunex and G96 Liquid Synthetic Grease. In my subjective opinion I find the grease works the best, I use a designated fine tip brush or q-tip to spread the grease on the slide and frame rails.

Just like @Ravage I find the grease tends to stick around longer. After every range trip I usually have to reapply oil to the slide & frame rails (typically I use between 100-300 rounds a trip), I find that with the grease it isn't always necessary to do so (in my opinion). However neither the CLP or the Ballistol ever gave me any issues, so it that's what you have and you don't want to buy grease than I think you'll be just fine. After using all 3 I just have a preference for the grease and I will likely try the Slip 2000 next as recommend above.

This is the answer.

I use One Shot on everything and once it's flashed off I run a Qtip with a dab of whatever down the rails. Whatever can be anything from Rem Oil, Gunslick, Ballistol, Hoppes Oil, whatever. As Skoal said, don't overthink it!

Cleaned my o/u shotgun, got a bit distracted and put it away with no lube. Remembered at the range putting er back together. All I had was Stihl summer chain oil - worked like a charm

One thing to keep in mind is that, even with polymer-framed pistols, most of the contact is still metal-to-metal, since they've got in-frame inserts on which the slide fits. Whatever you use on your all-metal pistols will work fine on polymer-framed ones.

Do you intend to store it, over the long term, but in a ready-to-use state? Grease tends to stay in place, but oil tends to migrate.

Do you intend to shoot it? Oil carries (bad, unwanted) stuff away, but grease tends to hold it.

Mobil 1....period.
If it is good for my Mustang GT, it is good for my pistols.
My pistols do not read and take what I give them.
