I'M BUILDING ANOTHER ONE, just one more,,,for now.
This rig has to meet the 10.5lb weight. CALIBER IS THE ISSUE.
It will the 243 win or 243 Ackley, driving the 105s or 115s, depending on what the barrel likes.
Input would be greatly appreciated, yes it's a 1in8 twist.
Thanks. Bill

I shoot 6mm Crusader, which is essentially a 6mm AI. It can launch the the 115 DTACs at 3250 fps. Accuracy node is around 3125 fps. though. The longer neck and added capacity makes it nicer than the 243 AI. Works in a short action. Have around 1500 rds. on the barrel and it still groups under 0.5 MOA. Run the numbers in JBM with the "Pointed DTAC" model, it's nice!

Make sure that you get a 5R barrel with 237x243 boresize or you'll be blowing up bullets.

That's a nice looking cartridge! I would choose it over 6XC...

That guy comes out with some great rounds. If I were to build a long range AR, I would go with his 6mmAR.

Why 10.5 lbs?

We have hunter and light sporter events that call for 10.5 lb rifles.I have heavy rifles in 6mm calibers, 6X47L and 243 Ack.
The 6mm super LR appears to be a very nice cartridge, 30 degree shoulder and all. I am set up for the other two but now you've got me thinking.
One thing the 243 Ackley has going for it, you don't have to load to or near maximums to achieve the 2950-3050 range.

243 Ack

Jerry Jerry we can't build accurate firearms based on barrel life, I have no problem replacing a barrel when the time comes. It's like buying a new rifle you get to start all over again.

The big issue I have with short barrel life is if you are shooting in a match that requires 250 rounds, then you need to know how much your throat is eroding so that you can seat your bullets to the correct depth. I know BR guys load on the fly, but that isn't really done in any other sport.

My last 6.5-284 moved the throat 5 thou every 70-100 or so rounds. That is a real problem for VLD bullets.

6.5-284

I'm shooting one of these 6.5-284 and am at a point where I'll rebarrel or set the barrel back and recrown. Hart barrel, I will probably set the barrel back and use it a bit more. Back to the ackley, I'm sure it's been done to short chamber the 243 ack. Anyway, I think I'll go with the standard ackley 40 dg shoulder.
Thanks for the input. Bill

I was also looking to build a rig on a 243 based cartrige a few months ago I was experimenting in the shop and took a piece of 243 brass and pushed the shoulder back about 3/16" .
It looked like a great cartrige long neck and I was going to blow this out to 30 degrees.
This would be very close to a 6mm long range I think I would go with this rather than a 243 or 243 ack due to short barrel life.
