I have a 6x8 with 18" sides that I built from scratch about 4 years ago. works great for the quad but a little light for filling the wood shed. works good for camp wood.
I also have a old truck box trailer that I just got about 2 months ago. I use it more then the other one now.

I have had my tub trailer new since 2007. Plastic, 5' tandem axle - walking beam, has a lid and small platform up front to haul jerry cans, etc. I wanted a 6' but no 6' with lid.

Works great. After all supplies hauled into camp, last trip in is the food and it stays in this tub trailer.

Interesting question. When you are asking what is the best ATV trailer are you asking what is the best trailer to haul your ATV in or what is the best trailer for ypur ATV to haul. A question like this always reminds me of this sentence.

I sold a carpet to a lady 9 feet long.
LOL

Great idea and I'd love to see/more details

Took a bit, but I managed to find the simple drawing and a few photos.
Rare like hen's teeth for some reason.
My buddy bought one that I believe was made by Suzuki.
I liked it and did my sketch with looky improvements.
What the heck is a trailer without somewhere to put a ratchet hook into?
Here is the one that I took my ideas from.

My sketch. It was cheaper to buy a 4'x12' sheet of ten gauge than it was to buy the sheet and a half.

I sent it to a local fab shop that at the time let me help the owner. He has a huge shear and brake.
I marked it all out and in an hour or so, we had all the pieces cut out and bent.
Then I took it home and finished it here in the lookyshop.
Not the bestest photos, but you get the idea.
The ten gauge metal made for a pretty beefy/heavy trailer, but I could throw firewood into it and
not despair.

Sorry for the crappy photos. It was loaded up for a moose hunt way back in time.

A buddy of mine has a northtrail.

It has bush buggy type small diameter tires, but they are highway rated. It tilt/dumps and he loads the bike in the trailer and it just hangs off the back with the tailgate removed. Then the rig gets towed behind the car.

We are building a camp and that thing has been loaded with 1200 pounds of lumber and it takes it. I don't know how, but it does. We keep waiting for something to break, but it just keeps going and going. It also has a flat bed in it which is the width of the box.

We stopped dragging moose out (too hard on the machines and what do you do when you came to a bog?) and went to this some years back:
Moose_in_Trailer.jpg

Because it was low to the ground, a couple of strong guys could manoeuvre a moose in with ease. Because of the size, (and one of our crew was a steel worker/welder) they made special brackets to mount the trailer on the ATV trailer - it was ingenious.

This same trailer was overloaded with bags of concrete, wood, shingles, deck-blocks, - you name it - and dragged kilometers through the bush to build a 16 x16 camp. And it never missed a beat. It does bounce around because of the tire only suspension but there is beauty in simplicity.

My buddy wanted a similar one for his ATV and had one made up of aluminum (to match his trailer behind my old Explorer) and it was pretty slick. Just don't brush up against it in your white pants!
