OK guys whats the best ATV trailer????

I've been wondering if the old trailers the Armed Forces used with the ILTIS would be any good as a wood hauler on a quad. You see them on Kijiji every now and then. They can be pricey but so are any of the good ATV trailers.

The surplus CF trailers are too big & heavy for a quad and steer away from the plastic tub ones if you are going to use it in really cold temps. I've seen a piece of hardwood tossed into one of those blow a hole clean through the bottom on a -20 day. I will however cast another vote for the Northtrail Bush Buggy trailer. I've got the 5'X4' model and have beaten the crap out of it hauling firewood, concrete blocks, an outhouse, bricks, sand - you name it. I had to replace the coupler after three years of abuse because all the articulating over rough terrain had worn it out. Other than that it has been rock-solid. It dumps and has a lift-out tailgate too.

Is that some sort of pygmy moose
It's not a mature bull but decent sized.

I was stunned to see the guys bring this back to camp in that trailer. I asked the guy how he figured he could fit a moose in it - "I saw how small my lab curled up when she was sleeping and figured a moose would be no problem", he said.

I built a trailer for hauling firewood and I guess it could be used to haul a moose.

Most home built ATV trailers are the same width as the quad, trails don't need to be widened then. I built mine wider, inside bed dimensions are 3'x8 and can carry almost as much as a short box truck', so that it would be less likely to tip over due too the high center of gravity and narrow stance. The axle was laying around at my in-law's house, from a Dodge car I believe because there was an axle for sale in the classifieds that looked the same, and I cut and welded it. I reinforced it with 1 1/2" pipe, fit right in the U channel, and that was to keep it straight as well. Ground clearance is excellent at 11" I believe, bike with got hung up long before the trailer will.

I am going to add a trailer jack and safety towing light kit so that I can haul the trailer out with the bike then hook up to the truck and drive it the 2 miles home.

We stopped dragging moose out (too hard on the machines and what do you do when you came to a bog?)

I built a slide to haul wood in the winter, picture a wide toboggan with sides, used two sheets of plywood and an old truck bedliner, cheap and light. Acts like a trail groomer as well, smooths out the high places and fills the low spots. It way work for hauling across a bog once or twice, I will look for photos.

I bought one of these from Canadian Tire and have been pleasantly surprised how well it works. I did have to reinforce it with some angle iron to haul some heavy logs.

After travelling back in the bush a couple years I bought myself one. In my opinion if you are going to use it a lot or on rough terrain it has to be tandem axle with a walking beam. Mine has a slid in back gate that can be removed and used as a ramp. Nose up to your bike and trailer with another quad and simply winch in your moose. A five foot box will hold just about any moose, but 6 foot would be better
