Well, Ive decided to scope one of my 305s. After extensive research, kind of, I'm going with the Bassett Machine Tool mount. I just ordered one on line with no problem so far. Quick replies and good communication from Texas. Takes (FRAUD ALERT). Stellar:rolleyes: reports and fairly reasonably priced at $98. plus $15. ship. Comes with a torque specific wrench and reports are it stays put and returns to zero when re and re. I haven't heard any local reports on it, so we'll see. On top of the mount I'm putting a cheapish Bushnell 4-16X50. I'm wondering which item will go fubar first? Anybody out there have any of this stuff? Cheers
 
If thats the scope you have chosen then who cares?
I might suggest you spend a wee bit more money and pick up a straight 10 power 3200 Bushnell. Looks good, works good and has large "Tactical" target knobs. You might even want to look at the 5 - 15 Tactical 3200 that Bushnell put out last year. It is quite nice and seems to work quite well.

With a 50mm front lens, you will likely find the scope is too high. 16X is too much too. Your field of view will be small.
(FRAUD ALERT) is owned by the same bunch of anti-firearm ownership twits that own E-Bay. Using either provides financial support to the people who don't think you should be allowed to own any firearm.
 
i learned ,like a few others before me, that when it comes to optics you need to spend the money.i would suggest getting suitable glass like the elite 3200 to start.

that 50mm glass is going to require a raised cheek rest.youre in the vancouver area ,check out daves for an Eagle buttstock pack,you can shim it up to gain a good cheek weld.http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i94/bluediver_dog/eaglemagpouch.jpg

Why not try the russian 10x scope in the russian scope thread? Ur doing exactly what I plan to do to my new shorty.
 
Thanks for the input. I didn't think about the 50 mm bell size so that will determine the outcome. Do bushnells hold up to the 7.62 pounding? Well I'll get the mount and see then what scope works best and what I can afford. And I would think that any M305 mount is going to need a cheek riser for true comfort. I guess the russian scopes are pretty tough if they were to be mounted on a X54r rifle.

I've used the Bassett mount ... I don't recommend it.
I do recommend the PromAg Arms 18 clone mount, for the ONLY cheap mount I've tried that I like.

I've mounted DOZENS of cheap scopes on the M-14, which is notoriously hard on any scopes, especially big heavy cheap scopes..

The only cheap scopes I can personally recommend are the older [MADE IN JAPAN ] used Bushnell Scopechief VI.
On the 14 I've used 3X9, 4X, 4X WIDEFIELD with BDC, 3X9 with BDC.

These scopes are available at gunshows for $ 50 to $ 150, and IMHO are the best bang for the buck for a cheap RELIABLE M-14 scope.

If you have the cash, a NEW Bushnell Etite 10X Mildot is nice too.
 
ive always used Leapers scopes on my M14's .. you can get them from Marstar.. side wheel parallax adjustment.. very nice . none of ths twisting the lens bull-detritus, makes things quicker and alot more comfortable

that is of course if you are firing at varying ranges from shot to shot .. parallax adjustment turret also has range estimation on most models i think.. coupled with mil dot ret, makes an effective package
