Doing some drooling at the "Whats New" sections of various sites and came across the new Marlin 1895SBL.

Hummm...
- Ghost Ring XS sights WITH optics rail
- Grey Laminated Pistol Grip Stock
- Large Loop
- Stainless Steel!
- 45-70!

Can't wait till they hit Kanada!

That larger loop might make it easier to get your hand in the lever. Looks pretty great if ya ask me!

Especially when you're wearing gloves during hunting season. Personally I don't like wearing big gloves while hunting (no matter what the temperature is) but I know an older guy who said that it makes a huge difference to him.

Man, if only they made that in a blued/walnut version (and without the incredibly hideous "tacticool" rail), that would be my dream rifle.

I thought about extending the tube magazine on the regular 1895, and chopping the barrel to 20". Sorta like a 30-30 on steroids. Then reality kicked me in the head and told me my wallet didn't have the money. Oh well.

I want something like that with a 16in barrel, synthetic stock, and heavy duty finish in .357 and/or .30.-30! :)

With or without factoring in the cost of the rifle? I bought an 1895 just before Christmas, figuring I would do exactly what you were thinking. One thing led to another (read; found another "have to have rifle") and I haven't gotten around to it yet, but my thinking was,.. cut & recrown the barrel, cut two dovetails, and add an extended mag tube, wouldn't be too much dough. The longer mag tubes are only about 20 bucks from Marlin. Am I out to lunch? Something I missed? Cheers.

I meant WITH the cost of the rifle. I don't have the $600ish for the rifle, let alone the costs for gunsmithing and parts. So yeah. If you already have the rifle though, it would certainly be worth doing. I would love to see that puppy when she's done.

I like the look of the 1895SBL, but without the rail. But I asked my local dealer what the price is , and they told me it was going to be in the 1200-1300 dollar range. I think I'll just keep my 1895G for that price.

Probably everyone on this site either has owned or does own a lever. Especially if they are left handed. I have a Savage 99c 308 and a Winnie 9422. I also have a Marlin Glenfield (cheaper 336) in a 30-30 just cuz I like them. I also have bolts, pumps and a semi but the levers are fun and all of the levers I have are great shooters too. Check with Western Gun Parts-they may have a glove lever for your gun and they stock some used parts too.
