My next firearms purchase will be an SKS. Which of the many locations is the best place to purchase?...I live in central Alberta, but am willing to buy online for a great purchase.

There is a lot of sks outthere!

I know marstar sell a Chinese version at fair price.

With so many new one out there, personally I would not buy used

Get one that is not "Frankenpinned". Usually those imported by "Bell" have had a piece of metal welded into the bottom of the mag which leaves an ugly ring showing.

I have one that has a piece of metal welded to the follower arm. It efficiently blocks the mag without showing horrible welding marks on the outside of the gun.

If you want a beauty collector, Westrifle.

New Chinese, Marstar.

Shooter, your local shop.

Or moreguns supply has a deal now where you buy a case of ammo and get an SKS for $119. Cheapest I've ever seen and you need ammo anyway.

Contact weimajack on here.He has some realy nice Russian laminate ones.I am very happy with the one i got from him.

I just bought a chinese military sks from marstar, $10 for a gun case and t-shirt is just too good, especially when coupled with a brand new rifle that just left the factory :) Ok, its been bathing in grease but it hasnt aged a day

I agree, the best deal out there by far. I bought my SKS from them and picked up from their shop in Winnipeg. I just wish they had that deal on back then.

Most of the 189$ SKS are just that 189$ SKS's... spend the 225$ and get one from westrifle. They are worth every penny...

Unless you want to put the sks in cheap plastic stock and drill a choate to it then the cheap forced matched ones are the way to go...

I got mine out of crate at Jo Brook...really its a military service weapon with probably 10 million built floating around. Some will be better than others but its still an sks. (I say that not to drag it down but come on, my buddy's dad did the same thing with his enfield... kicked open the crate and grabbed one)

TradeEx Russian SKS re-furb $169+taxes and shipping.
Just got mine-beautiful!
Have dealt with them several times.
Excellent service,excellent guns.

Not all SKS's are created equal! I suggest you do your homework and read the FAQ stickies under Red Rifles, particularly Curtton's excellent contributions. Then, physically inspect one from a local seller, or order one from a reputable CGN dealer.

Spend $50 to $100 more and get a beauty.

I suggest weimajack, as his are as good as they get. If you want to bubba the sucker, then probably any SKS will do.

BTW, accuracy varies with each SKS, but most will do 4 to 6 inch groups at 100 metres with the iron sights using the surplus Czech ammo if you do your part. I have two that consistently do 3 inches or less. They are also nice looking SKS's -- but frankenpinned. I solved that problem by sending them to Murdoc to be parkerized and arma-coated.

If you need to pick one up at a shop and play with them locally, Milarm downtown has a ton. Chinese, Russian, etc.

I just got a Chinese, but I love it. So fun to shoot. I may get a Russian version later for more of a safe queen (just to have), and will probably buy that online.

Got mine at P and D in edmonton few weeks ago, nice gun, exelent service. One of the guys even invited me to an sks event they have in spruce grove.
