Ok need some pointers!

1. don't aim high. I have found when shooting from elevations, if you aim high at all you shoot over yout target (because of the arc of the bullet). I ususally aim low and hit above were i shoot.
2. Make sure you wear a harness and tie off. Not nice to fall out of a tree.

sit still no matter what, takes allot out of anyone to sit motionless in a stand in freezing temps but needs to happen, also bring a book or mag to help pass the hours. Good luck.
Although you probably have to wear your blaze orange, try and be very camauflaged otherwise. Wear something on your face or paint it. (Call me crazy, but I'm sold on the fact that I think they see your face easier than the orange you're wearing.)
De-scent yourself first. (Especially your boots) You can buy a scent stablizer at Canadian Tire and it works great!!
Squirt a bit of female urine (if it's deer you're hunting for) near your treestand.
Don't move alot. Make no noise.
Go easy on the calling, and look everywhere!

I am hunting for deer. Used this same gun for goose hunting so used to the gun for that. I did go deer hunting(rifle) this year but didn't see any deer that were alive. Had some good quality time in the quiet with my thoughts(scary thought)!

Are you using slugs or buckshot?
in either case, it's worth it to find out where the gun shoots. If you are using the same barrel you used for geese, don't expect that buckshot will pattern like other types of shot, it might, but it might not too.
Slugs are another matter. If you are shooting slugs from asmooth bore, sight it in, some guns just don't shoot slugs well. You may have to try a few brands to get one your gun likes.
Tree stand hunting this time of year can be a tad frosty. You'll likely need more than you took for the regular gun hunt to stay warm.

Wear a full body harness and make sure that you are secured to the tree before you do anything. Carry a piece of carpet with you to stand on as sometimes boots can squeak on the platform as you move your feet. Hand and foot warmers are a real help.

I will at least wear camo paint...I don't want to scare anyone.
I am using slugs in the gun but I don't have a harness. I am using a ladder tree stand it can go 15 feet but I am only using it at 10 feet. I feel secure in it, I didn't even know about the harness thing but personally I really dont think I would need one.

We haven't got any trees here that one would climb and hunt from, but I think even 10 feet is farther than I'd want to fall out of a tree alone in the forest. Dragging yourself out with a busted leg wouldn't be much fun.
In addition to some of the advice given here, include a hot seat, good mitts or gloves, good warm boots, and something the wind won't blow through when you're up in the tree.
You might consider carrying warmer clothes with you when you walk in,(avoid sweating) then dress warmer before you climb into your stand.

Thanks for all your advice guys I will keep you posted on how I do. We went for a walk today where we are hunting and saw a nice sized deer(actually only saw the rear end which was huge) running through the bush. Owner says he sees them around my stand all the time so I am hopeful.
