OK Now We've Solved The Brass Problem...Let's Wildcat !!

The .458 on the Ruger case makes sense to folks that want an unbelted case to work with.
Maybe Ruger and Hornady are already playing with the concept....let's hope.

Though I'm quite happy with my .458 Win Mag, I would like to play with a number based on
the .375 Ruger case.:)
 
The full explanation for the 300 WM to 375 Imposter is on my other thread "Tried a little experiment" here on this forum. As far as the photo cartridges go, I have over 100 sets of dies from 204 and 22 hornet up to 470 NE and 50 BMG. I have also made up expander mandrels from 22-28, 30-35, 30-37 and 30-42 then my 450 Ackley dies have a case expander as well. So I just ran the case over the 30-42 expander then full length sized in my 416 Ruger dies, to true everything up and then ran it onto the expander plug in my 450 Ackley dies and voila.......458 Ruger, seated the bullet using the inside shoulder of the 416 Ruger seater die. The 35 was easier, just ran the neck into my 38 spl sizing die and seated bullet using 375 Ruger seater die.
All it takes is an imagination, a lathe and a huge die collection and you can make nearly anything from anything.......within reason. Oh ya, and a willingness to sacrifice a few brass, which in this case didn't hurt at all 'cause they were the kid's cases I used..ha ha ha.........
 
100 sets of dies is quite normal for someone that has been into reloading for several years, or in Doug's case, many MANY decades. Say Doug, what did you use for equipment when the brass cartridge was invented? ;-)

I would have had close to that, but several moves and "cleaning out" of excess equipment has left me with about 30. Working on building it back up.
 
More than 40 years of collecting dies and wildcatting........sometimes I just buy a set of dies 'cause they are on sale real cheap 'cause they're super oddball or I have bought some cheap sets to butcher to make other dies from while wildcatting. 100% RCBS with the exception of 2 sets. 4 or 5 duplicates 'cause I used 1 set to butcher to make something else. Plus I have special ordered dies for all my old Winchesters, right from 218 Bee to 405 win and some real common ones like 38-72 and 40-72 and 40-82......33 and 35 Win etc...etc...etc...I know, I know but the therapy didn't work, all I did was keep thinking of new cartridges while the therapist was talking....LOL
The next one I want to try is a 375 WSM on a short action Ruger RSI.............tell me that wouldn't be super cool....:cool:....I had an 18" barreled 375-350 RM I made up and it was amazing. That would be responsible for one of those butchered die sets I spoke of earlier...............Like I said the therapy didn't work.........:redface::(;)

Redding lists 375 WSM dies in their "custom" die list. Let us know how it turns out. ;)
 
Gatehouse, it's not that it hasn't been done........it's all been done.......it was more the cartridge/rifle combo that I found appealing.
I also just checked one of my short action RSIs and I can get 3 under...................even better !!

I'm aware that everything you have been starting threads about has been done- But I was pointing you in the direction of easy to obtain good quality Redding dies if you decide to actually build this rifle.
