Please, discuss and elighten :)

Like to do a little bench rest shooting, but nothing where I need a really expensive rifle. I'd like to keep it under $500 or so.

I will probably take it out in the bush, or maybe out for a little hunt how and again.

Probably mostly at the range for paper and clays, steel etc.

I know both of these can do really great little groups as evidenced by the 50m stuff in the thread here. :)

Oh, must be .22lr, not .17### or magnum. And I will be putting a 3x9x32 AO scope on it.

Another vote for CZ, I have 3 of them, with the 455 tatical trainer being my favorite.
The build quality and material qulity is 2nd to non in that price category, I have owned a savage too, great fun gun, but the metal they use just feels cheap. And my wife is even pickier than me when comes to quality, she loves the CZ and flat out refuse to touch the savage so I sold it.

You get a way better made gun with a cz. That savage is the same gun as the $200 ones just with a fancy stock. You can put all the lipstick you want on a pig but its still a pig. Get the cz and love life.

You'll get better "fit & finish" with the CZ and a more "refined" feel... But there is nothing wrong with the accuracy of a Savage...

And lipstick on a pig can make the difference between taking her dancing or to a dark movie...

I own one of each, accuracy wise there is not much difference. I prefure the Savage though just because it is SS . As far as fit and finish goes , if you compare a $500 Savage to a $500 CZ ther really isn't that much difference.

Go CZ. They quality is top notch and the accuracy is excellent given the price point. If you're considering BR I would strongly consider a higher magnification scope.

CZ for sure. Awesome quality. I was amazed the first time I shot mine. I got bored shooting the same hole at 50m, so in 5 shots I shot the 4 tacks off of the target. The last one took two shots because it was a clear tack.

Are Savage rimfire rifles made in canada? Are CZ rifles are made in Europe? If it were me and the rifle quality was close or even I would try to keep my money in Canada.
Also, I think that maybe the stronger the firearm manufacturers are in Canada, the stronger the firearm owners will be.
Here`s an example: http://www.nfa.ca/membership-purchase It says nfa.ca, not nfa.Europe, China,Russia or whatever

gerard488, that thought definitely is in my head as well!

thank you all everyone. I am still not fully decided, but I guess the deal and the time and place will decide it for me.

as for the optic, yes, one day I will get something more powerful, but for now, I already own the scope and its been good so far.

I've taken more than a few friends to the store that stocks both when they were looking for rimfire rifles, and had them hold both. Every one of them has said that the CZ feels much better to hold, and feels like holding a high quality centerfire rifle rather than a toy. If you can find one, you'd probably really like the 453 varmint for benchrest.

All Savage rim fires are made in Lakefield Ontario, Canada. Ordered mine directly from the factory. Which is better? That's a matter of opinion. I got the heavy barreled Mk II with the laminate stock.
It will consistently shoot the primers out of 12 ga shells at 100 metres.
Cz's are made in Czec Republic
