OK, so I lost the key for my 30-06 Trigger lock

Give it to some young kid and tell him to open it. My brother who is younger than me opened at up in like a minute. Did I mention he used a paper clip. Those locks are a joke and are really only good for one thing. Keeping the law enforcers happy.

When it happened to me several years ago, I just popped the lock apart with a screwdriver. destroys the lock but is much faster than using a key. Last week at the range, I used Tiriaq's method of pressing on the spring clip with a small screw driver and opened 3 or 4 for a fellow that had left his key at home. Since then I have started carrying a dental pick in the truck in case I should forget my key; works better than a screw driver and I can now use the locks I have with no keys.

I lost the key for my hunting rifle, it's a Master trigger lock, is there any way to get it opened or am I SOL? If the mods dont like discussing how to do this, then just ignore this thread, thanks.

Made it 13 hours to my moose camp only to find my dad had left his trigger lock key at home it was a master two pairs of vice grip pliers spin one in each direction and pull it apart once i figuerd how took all of 30 seconds good luck!

I cut off the notched bar side with a hack-saw. Took less than a minute. On another, I put in a spare key and forced it unlocked with a vice grip. That took less than 30 seconds. Pfft, sellers that don't send the key with the firearm!

You, and ten of your buddies should have bought keyed-alike locks . . .

Check with Master to find out the minimum numbers required for an order.

What do gun stores do?

what johnc, tiriaq and others said it's usually not a big deal. had one one time that had to have the trigger assembly removed. ended up in the drill press. i don't know what the tensil strength of the steel they used on that one but it was tough. hey tiriaq, good idea, i've gotta get a back room

That's why I always buy the combination locks instead. That way I can forget the combination and feel really stupid, rather than simply loosing a key :)

Oh hey guys, I forgot the combination to my gun safe. It's next door, at the neighbours house. any tips? :D

I was bird hunting/plinking with the kids when I ran across a black bear that wouldn't get off the trail. I left the bike running and grabbed the 870 to fire one in the air to convince him it wasn't a safe place to be. NO KEYS! I used mu multi-tool to cut off the rubber and then trip the spring loaded catch and get the lock off. Once I got to the pit, I found the keys in my range bag. I was none too happy!

if you dont mind losing the lock then put one side in a vice and turn the other side in a pipe wrench and it snaps of in a quarter turn.

This problem has been cover many times on this site.
But as stated before , get a fine small screwdiver or
a strong pick ( small allan wrench ground to a flat is strong);
and pull rubber away as far as you can and
stick the little tool in on the ratchet and if you get in there
it will pop open. If you have one to look at you will see what I mean.
If you put them on real tight , may not work, But I have usally got
them off.
BTW, all master lock keys are numbered, so get them all keyed alike and
keep spare keys where you can find them. I use those cheap crappy
screw ones and any thing will work on them- home made end in small
power scewdriver.:D
Good luck.
