Ok.......so I may have a problem

Once I get this thing home, I'm going to run it with about 4000 crap casings in it to clean it up

I took a better look at it, the mounting looks to be standard, not sure what glue was being smoked when I was told otherwise. So, first step is to get it home, mount the new motor and try it out.
 
Yeah I think that's why, I've heard that small VFD's are pretty cost effective, especially in relation to reducing startup amperage. A 7.5hp 3phase air compressor can draw up to 130amps @ 220 volts using a conventional starter, but will run about 20-25amps while working. Those numbers could be off a bit, the last time I looked at my amp clamp was 5 years ago, and I'm no electrician.

A quick look at ebay puts 1hp VFD's in the $125-$500 area.

Single or three phase?

Three phase motors can be run with a VFD on single phase but they are not as efficient during running than a straight three phase motor.

Three phase can be hard to get from what little I understand about it.
 
Yeah the VFD are being used to convert single to 3 phase with the added bonus of being able to do the speed control with the units. We don't have 3 phase available to us at the club and souring 30 hp and two 15 hp motors was a non starter. Cheaper to go with the VFDs.
 
No agitators. Its not for cement its for animal feed. The action of dropping down the V then back to the center is what agitates it as it turns. I could weld fins inside but don't think it would make much difference. Its just a back and forth motion.

What kind of media are you going to use?

That stainless stuff would probably work nice, I really want to try some in my cement mixer...
 
Standard corn cob media. At least at first. Not even sure this thing is going to work!

I have no experience in this matter, other than with my dillon cv2001. I've read that corn cob and those dry medias work best in a vibrating action whereas wet cleaning methods work better in more congenital mixers like yours.

I know the corn cob works well from my experience with it, but after seeing the thread here on those stainless pins, I think they are the way to go... but expensive.

And lower volume. No use to a person who is trying to clean thousands of rounds of brass every month or two.

Well in their little tumbler. I'm thinking hard about buying a bunch to try and use in my cement mixer, because it will hold thousands of casings no problem. When I do get to go shooting, I shoot hard.
 
I load about 4,000 9mm a month right now, so I go through brass and media pretty quick. I have two Midway tumblers and a Dillon. The Dillon sucks, the Midway ones rock. I figured for free this thing might be decent.
FD- at the mid point, the bottom of the V is a sliding gate valve for draining the mixer. Just position it with the bottom of the V facing down and push the lever. I might replace the current valve with a new one later on, as it doesn't seal tight right now.
Can't use liquid in this without a ton of modifications to it and better seals.
