OK so, I need/want a leather holster for P226

That's a different model (not the Avenger). The Avenger is the 'Askins' style with the integrated loop which pulls the butt of the pistol in closer. I believe the one pictured is a Galco 'Concealable Belt Holster' and a very generous offer from shooter!

I think DS Tactical (one of our site sponsors) had a couple 'old stock' leather Safariland holsters they found in the back a little while ago ....

I believe they were for the P226.

Leather holsters are much harder on a gun's finish than Kydex holsters are. The "rough inside" style of holster (which is the norm) acts like sandpaper on the finish. Kydex is completely smooth on the inside, and cannot trap dirt and grit. Incidentally, the "Avenger" holster was actually originally designed by Charles Askins and first produced as the 'Askins Avenger' this design was very popular with the early IPSC crowd, including Col Cooper.
 
After a little bit of research and overall unhappiness with Galco's customer service, I went on and purchased (gift of my wife) and Alessi DOJ open port holster.
