Small game, medium game, large game .... plinking ... a great time at the range ... etc. ....

My vote goes to the 12ga .....

Ok, ok .... I see ... we need a couple more constraints ... ;)

Here is the scenario .... in the foreseeable future ... our beloved government manages to pass a law ... that allows you to only keep one gun! One gun to do all your hunting .... shooting .... etc.

Now .... yes you could keep a drilling ... or a combination gun ....

But what is the caliber that you would keep for all your needs ....

Variety is the spice of life so it's a good thing we have so many calibers to choose from.

375 H&H IMO. Minimum legal requirements for Africa. Ammo and components common enough. Almost every manufacturer makes one. Can be down loaded for smaller animals. Recoil is manageable.

For my needs and the hunting I do it would be my Winchester M70 7mm Rem mag, For zombies in the streets we would need another thread for that.LOL

.375 h&h.

X2 fer sure for us reloading folks as we can go from 80 gr lead round ball rodent loads on up to 300+ gr bullets for the heaviest critters we can offer up. The cartridge is so nice to load for and in a decent rifle, many can expect 30-06 levels of accuracy on long shots. I consider the round to be a reloader's dream for all round versatility.

:)Agreed. My first 375 is a Winchester model 70 Super Express in 375 H&H. Then,;) for a touch of variety, I later picked up a custom Remington 700 in 375 Chatfield Taylor. Fairly potent big bores and you're right, fun to load for.;) Shot some dangerous looking paper but, sadly,:( no field use, ;) yet.

358 NORMA MAG. All capital letters ( i am yelling it) 158 grain pistal bullets for the small stuff. 250 gr. For medium big. 280 gr Swift A frame for the really nasty ones.

.375 H&H no question. It can take any game in North America at any reasonable range and is a good stopper as well. The downside is recoil is more than a 30-06 and rifles tend to be heavier. I would love to try an 8 lb .375 Ruger with a shorter barrel. The Ruger may be the perfect one as overall jack of all trades.
